You will need to pull a hunk of drag around after or behind your drill to cover the seed. Three links of drag chain won’t do hardly anything because two links won’t touch the ground the way they are set up. I figured those were for the small seed which I was planning on cultipacking after. I am sure there will be a learning curve on different seeds. Yep. I had the same setup on my first drill. Went and bought 3 more rings for each chain. Still didn’t do it. Then started pulling a 5 bar harrow behind the drill. And that worked well to cover the wheel tracks and the disk openings.

I planned on packing for beans for sure. With small seeds I wasn’t sure. I mean a lot of just just throw seed on the top anyways and it germs. Did you pack for small seeds too mo? Any setting suggestions for beans brassicas clover etc ?

Brad 16 for the beans with none of the openings blocked in big seed box. For clover 2, for brassicas 1 on the small seed box.

With some soybeans in one year as big as 2100 seeds per lb, and some small soybeans at 3800 seeds per lb. the next year, you could be way off on your seeding rate.

We did a lot of over seeding with small seeds so we couldn’t pack. Prayed for rain and a lot of it. We always pulled a piece of drag behind the grain drill when we were able to use a drill to cover the seed and more importantly the wheel tracks left by the tractor and the seed on top of the ground in the wheel tracks.

No problem. What kind of drag did you use? Like a chain link fence drag?

No more walking with solo hand seeder. Here are the soybeans planted with grain drill. Ignore the weeds as I sprayed yesterday.
