So I think I'm ready to buy a side by side. What add ons/accessories/whatever would you consider "have to have"? Does a guy really need air conditioning? Seems a bit nuts to me, but maybe I'm missing something.

How about a heater? Do these things normally produce enough engine heat to keep the cab warm enough?

The FIL traded his in for a new one this past fall. I thought he was crazy for getting so many options (power steering, heat, air, windshield wiper, etc), but damn if I wasn't wrong! Found out real quick that I love the AC, a great heater, and a wiper. With that said it's used for work to check cattle, dump mineral, fix fence, move herds, etc... meaning I may be stationed out of it for a full day, not just a trip to a stand or food plot. Before I used one I would have said no way it's needed, but now I can't say enough about how much I like that stuff.

For doors we’ve got the mesh thingy. A solid half or whole door would probably be preferred. We definitely got wet when it rained. But the breeze is nice when it’s hot as shit. If you’re going to do any trail riding in anything other than pristine weather I’d probably opt for a full door. Unless you like getting dirty.

So u r going full cab from the start it sounds. Dad has a heater in his. I have never been in an enclosed cab without heat. I wonder if fog/frost would be an issue inside without heat??

It’s used to get from shed to garden and/or stand or ride a short distance. If you’re using it a lot or like cat said stationed out of it for a day the heat/AC might be pretty nice.

I used ours for hunting this past fall. I sat all day a lot. In shit weather. Ride up the hill at night was like ace Ventura. Head out the side trying to see. Haha. We don’t have heat /etc. windshield wipers are nice though.

The price on all these accessories will likely blow your mind so be prepared for that. I’m guessing you’re looking at $20,000+ for what’s being discussed here.

Honestly, I imagine 90%+ of its use will be riding around the dirt roads with my wife in the evenings. Probably hit a few bars with it from time to time too. My trail system isn't designed for vehicles as large as side by sides and I don't envision widening the trails. I suppose it may do a bit of orchard work too.

A cab without heat and defrost can make for some tough driving. Those flip-up windshield vents sound nice but are great at bringing in every grasshopper, seed, and garden spider around. I'll suffer through heat and dust clouds instead of what the vent brings in. No doors is fine for summer until there is a 50mph side wind blowing your note pads and gloves out of the cab all the time, or the rain is sideways. So, if you are going to have cab and doors then heat and AC are nice. None of it is essential, but it is awfully damn likable. But like I said earlier, I sometimes basically live out of one (and until recently it was junk). It's a lot like Foggy's tractor. A tractor doesn't need a cab but once you've worked out of one for a few long days it's nice.

How's your wife feel about it, and how long do you intend to keep this particular expense? Maybe you need a tandem electric bicycle...
