You know what they say about small trails... I read all the way to the end of this dad bern thread trying to find the rest of this saying. What is it?

Dad bought his in madison SD. No need to worry about servicing a honda. Ya, probably. I'm just more interested in trying to spend my dollars as close to "local" as possible. If I could buy a Honda in L.P. I would likely do so. If I could buy any brand of UTV in L.P. I would likely do so... Mies is right down the road from my place and I have had great luck with my Polaris. We have test drove a lot of different brands. Cat makes a nice Utv but not as "finished" as a Polaris.

How about a heater? Do these things normally produce enough engine heat to keep the cab warm enough? I got a heater in mine.....and it does produce decent heat. Nice if your gonna use it in the winter. I dont see a need for a/c. I got a winch, glass windshield, plastic roof, cab doors for winter, wiper, LED LIGHTS front and rear (nice for gutting deer). A front receiver is really nice for operating a spreader / seeder. I wish I had power steering.....but I do OK without. If I spent the winters in MN I'd have a front mounted plow. (Power steering seems mandatory with a plow) I think 700 cc or more is good. I can't tell you how often I use the flip up rear seats as found on my Honda. Really nice for doing a "land tour" with visitors. My Honda Pioneer has been a great performer as a "utility" side by side.

Anybody got experience with Arctic Cat/Prowler UTVs? My ATV was a CAT. Worked this piss out of it and never had any problems. Have you considered a new non current year model. That's what I did and saved LOTS of $$$ doing so. I wouldn't worry to much about a dealer being close to home. I bought mine over 2 hours away, it never went to any dealer for anything.

I don't care what year it is, but from what I've been finding there is next to no inventory of anything out there. Very few models sitting anywhere, a guy pretty much have to order one. There's 2 Cat/Prowler dealers within about 30 minutes, so I was looking at them. There's also a Can-Am dealer about the same distance, but they are sure proud of those machines $$$. One thing I have noticed is that Kawasaki has the longest warranty.

It's not a short drive over there, but it may be worth it.

My SIL just traded his motorcycle for a side by side.......and did so at Mies. Not sure what he bought yet......but he does like Can AM. He was talking about getting AC in his unit. He spends too much money on toys......but then who doesn't?
He does allot of research......I will ask whet he bought. He is the "go fast" trail riding kinda guy tho. Not what your wanting......IMO.

^^^nope, going fast on trails isn't a consideration for me. I guess being able to go 40-45 on a dirt road would be nice.

I think my Honda Prairie tops out at about 50 MPH. Plenty fast for me. I think Utility is the key for your use Stu. I bought my Honda at the store in St Cloud. Never a whimper so far....tho I did have to take it back as the heater did not perform well until they did a recall on it. Works pretty good now. I think most of the top brands are pretty good merchandise these days.

I've had my Ranger 900 for almost 2 years now. Been happy with it so far although I only have like 390 miles on it. Use it for plowing my driveway and some nominal food plot/orchard work and some cruising around the block. I actually think I have a smaller turning radius in my Ranger with turf mode on (only the right rear tire driving) than my old 4 wheeler. I was surprised. No heat/ac in mine. Have a windshield and back window. I haven't felt like I needed heat or ac for that matter. I walked out the door for $14k for mine. I went up north to Ray's in Grand Rapids to buy mine.

It looks like if a guy is going to go with an enclosed cab with heat and a/c, the Polaris is the way to go. Kawasaki doesn't offer something like that, you need to go with an aftermarket cab deal and it looks pretty clunky to me.
It seems either a guy drops $25K for something with most of the bells and whistles, or drop back to around $15K for a machine that will do everything the more expensive unit does...just with less human comfort. The wife says just spend the $25K and be done with it....

I think it was around that $15,000 range. Just remember Stu, YOLO.
