I doubt you can find a open houseboat rental on this side of the border for then. The only way is if someone just cancelled. It doesn't have to be a houseboat, it can be a resort/cabin also.

It is definitely not a Canadian experience, but lake Winnie can be interesting.
Cass and Bemidji can have good fishing, but they are less remote than Winnie.

Not sure if the fishing is as good on the Missouri River as it was some years ago........but we used to have one hell of a valleye trip there years back (80's & 90's). We had limits for everyone.....and nice size fish too. We quit going to Canada and took customers to Mobridge instead. Was easier and cheaper and lots of fun.

Smallmouth taste different than largemouth or black bass? I'm always jealous of the walleye pics you guys post. Truly beautiful fish compared to what we grow down here. I haven’t eaten a largemouth or a rock bass. I ate a couple smallies out of Vermilion though. I thought the meat was very good. The lake is cold and clear. The meat was just a nice white fish with a medium texture. It too flakey, not too firm. We eat as many largemouth as anything else. They are as good as walleye in my book. I put perch number 1 but eat plenty of bass, walleye, crappies, and blue gills. We catch a few limits of bass every opener and have one big fish fry.

After a bunch of searching we found a place on Lake Andrusia which is part of the Cass Lake chain. Hopefully we can catch some fish.

It won’t be a Canadian experience, but those lakes connected by the Mississippi can be good. Outdoor News just had Wolf Lake as lake of the week. Lake Bemidji can also be good at times.

It definitely won't be the same as Canada, but the drive won't be as far. The cabin is really nice even has A/C. From what I have read the fishing can be pretty good. Who knows if we like it, might make it a yearly thing.

Many lakes are great up there. Only problem is the resorts and launches are packed. Pressure last year was nothing short of intense with Canada closed. Which means the lakes are taking high pressure. It is what it is. At least there wont be BLM protests up there.

We will launch boats and keep them at dock when we are up there. There are only 9 cabins at the resort we are going to be staying at, so it shouldn't be too busy. It can't be any busier than what it is on the Bay of Green Bay on weekends. lol

I still like Canada because the phone doesn’t work for a week. No screens for a week. That wouldn’t happen in Minnesota or Wisconsin. I really missed that last year. And just bullshitting in camp. I don’t really care about the fishing that much. I’ll likely never top my biggest up there. I enjoy the Canada trip for everything else.

After a bunch of searching we found a place on Lake Andrusia which is part of the Cass Lake chain. Hopefully we can catch some fish. Try Cass in the last hour before dark, and about 1/2 hour after. Depending on time of year, jig minnows on the breaks or troll Shad Raps. It’s a clear lake... that’s a tip from the late Gary Clancy (Outdoor News) . I think you will do well.
