I did some reading on the "Three sisters" a few days ago. Seems the corn, beans, and squash the native americans were growing back then were very different than the corn, beans, and squash we grow today.

Seems the corn, beans, and squash the native americans were growing back then were very different than the corn, beans, and squash we grow today. Was wondering about that. Thought perhaps a new 3 sisters mix was in order for today's times. Maybe Corn, climbing beans and a brassica? I read where some have substituted pumpkins for the squash.

We need a mix like this for the north country. Sounds easy and affordable.

Thinking about planting a small grain plot for my pigs tomorrow. Rye,oats, and barley. Sandier soil. Too early yet? Thoughts?

1 pig plot in. Rye, oats, collards and fertilizer. Top sowing annual clovers in a couple of weeks. Perfect conditions for plantong the lighter soil and it started raining 10 min after completion (that never happens).
Next pig plot will be rye, barley, collards and again later in the season top sowing annual clovers.
Pics will be coming as I progesss

I expect half to be total catastrophe, and half to be outstanding.
