That looks great. What kind of pigs to you usually buy? I'm finishing up pig pen now and should be ready to bring in a few oinkers shortly. My kids have been bugging me to get livestock and I like critters that get butchered in the fall so I don't have to deal with them in January.
I'm planning on looking on craigslist for some piglets that we will keep until late fall when they are butchered. I have no real plan on how to transport them yet, but I'll come up with something along the way.

I think we will only get about 4 since I don't know much about pigs (I know how to butcher and cook them, but that's about it). I have a overhang on one side of my barn and an adjacent grassy section that is fenced in and they will have that area to live in. I bought a bunch of hog panels to attach to the existing wooden fencing and hopefully that will keep them in place. I planted rye and clover in this area last fall and it is coming in really well right now. I have about 18" of corn stalks and soybean straw in the section under the overhang, so hopefully that makes a good bedding area. This hog area is adjacent to my 1/5 acre fenced garden, so as we pick crops off my garden I'll plant a cover crop in that section and once the garden is done in early fall I'll turn the pigs loose in there too.
I have enough tillable acres to qualify for ag homestead taxes already, so the pigs won't change anything related to taxes one way or the other. I will be planting a couple acres of tillable ground to use for summer pig food and then once those are used up I'll plant a fall deer food plot blend there. I'll also plant some extra pumpkins and watermelons since I'm sure pigs would like to eat those in early fall. This first year should be a learning experience.

Sounds like you will have some expense feeding those hogs. Document it and sell some pork!

Starting out any breed will work for you. I started out with "mutt" pigs and they turned out pretty good. Good luck man, it's a lot of fun

Two of the best I’ve had. Mangalitsa also right up there.

I would love to find some feeders and try them.

Next stop... whitetail plots What are you running for equipment? Looks like a skid steer attachment? Skidsteer implant yes.. It's a road leveling bar design that I had tweaked for farming my place. Teeth can be rotated up and down. The leveling bar is used at the end of the season to flatten the craters created from the pigs. And with the tracks most soils are accessible for planting.
