Oh. I forgot the occasional trip to koochland for grouse. We have a lot of grouse around. Lyla has come damn close to catching a couple of them. I don’t hunt with them but they will hold a point for a long time. Lyla is also good at blood tracking. I have let her find a few of my deer.

I have had flushers and pointers and unless you hunt with other pointers they don't coexist. If this is a dog for your family I would stay away from the super high-end wired dogs as they will never be at rest. I would look for something that does not have long hair as the burs in those grasses are nasty and sense you will live there all the time it will be a mess.
Sounds like you have allot of birds and dogs get quite good based on reps not just pedigree. Actually a nice rugged female yellow lab would be a great dog for you and the wife. Nice temper, family oriented and able to go through more than you can.

Reba vs Jolene. I think both are great and it depends on the personality of the dog. Opposites kind of. “Fancy” could be neat too.

Find yourself a littler of griffons... buy a pair... and ship one to me. I'll help you name yours.

Unfortunately I didn’t put the training into him like my first duck dog. Then he got sick last year. No ducks this year so he hasn’t really had a chance to shine. But one thing I am certain of is burs. That long coat is the the worst. He was so covered during a duck hunt this year I broke out a knife to relieve his misery. My wife wasn’t too happy when he looked like someone butchered his coat. I don’t know why any breed was ever developed with a long coat.

Labs are great dogs too, but I sure like goldens.
