Are these the ones you planted this year or have they been in the ground awhile?

Those been in the ground since August 2016. It looks like they may finally put on some growth this year.

My white spruce seedlings grow about the same rate as yours. It looks like yours had some decent growth last year, so they should do even better this year. They really seem to take off after that if you can keep the buck from rubbing main leader.

They really seem to take off after that if you can keep the buck from rubbing main leader. I'm not overwhelmed with bucks rubbing things on my place. I was lucky to find 5 or 6 rubs this winter on my place. Most I'd seen from one season and they were mostly right behind the cabin. I'm planning to get a goat for a weekend and one of the tasks is to mow up and down those tree lines. There's some brush popping up that needs to be whacked in anticipation of that flail happening sometime. Brush whackin is a good job for other people's equipment. Ya know?

Will 2,4-d kill spruce trees? I have some lawn weed poison. Active ingredient is 2,4-d. I bet it’ll kill those weeds but I don’t want to kill the Spruce it is under.

Good lord that's a shitty picture. Sorry. Not going back out there. I got bit by some invisible insects while I was taking this.

When I spray 24d on random weeds and brush they usually die. I haven't sprayed it on conifers though, but it seems like a plan that could go wrong.

We sell a group 4 and a group 2 herbicide to the DNR to kill pine trees growing in road ditches on forest land. Mix of Tordon and Patriot with MSO oil is about the only combo that does a good job we have found. Thats if your trying to kill them. No other brush killer is effective so far.

I just want to kill the shit that’s growing underneath them. I don’t plan to purposely spray the trees.
