I'm in the market for a new weed-whip. For years I've been using a Craftsman walk behind string trimmer. What I really liked about it was that the string was two 18 inch pieces of heavy duty .155 diameter string, no dicking with those heads where you pop it on the ground to release string, and pretty soon nothing is coming out and then you're in your shop re-wrapping the string. I HATED THAT!!!
Now I have a hillside that has some thistles thats hard to push the string trimmer on plus I'd like to get something that has a blade that I can use to do cockle-burrs, small trees etc around my old buildings.
I've been looking at the Stihl trimmers that you can put a brush blade on and a head that has nylon blades and not those piece of crap tap heads. Looking at the FS 94 R Stihl.
Any recommendations of trimmers?? Anybody own a Stihl trimmer? Thoughts??

I have an Echo(dont know the model) that we have cut untold amounts of prickly ash and thistle with over the years. I used the 4 prong brush blade. The blade that looks like a table saw blade is better on larger stuff and is kind of a pain. The 4 prong blade eats small brush and thistle with ease.

I have the Stihl 460 and it works great. I use it to cut small trees and shrubs that grow in shooting lanes I can't get to with my ATV pull behind brush hog.

Ended up getting a Stihl FS 91, with the string head and also the three blade steel brush blade. Going to give it a workout tomorrow after the rain quits. Hope I'm not cussing!!!

I picked up this one for $45 to use on my new stump plot. My whacker was smaller then recommended but it got the job done. I just couldn't open it up all the way without wicked vibration. Half speed worked fine. 90% of what I cut was pencil size or smaller.
