I meant to rebuild my cub mower deck from the ground up last winter. I didn't get it done. Now I'm paying the price. One of the cheap POS clips that holds the deck on snapped off. That screwed up one of the idler wheels. The belt was getting bad too, and when I pulled the belt off I checked the spindles, at least one had some "grinding" to it. I ordered the parts, got it put back together today and fired it up. It mowed great...for about 10 minutes. Then something went "pop" and the belt popped off. Shut 'er down and looked underneath...the belt tension spring snapped. So....now I ordered a new one of those and the little dealie it attaches to. About all that's left to replace is one other idler and two spindles. I should probably have just ordered all new parts this time around and been done with it.

Well at least your doing it yourself and not paying someone. I'm running outta excuses to not change my own oil in the wheeler. I found a hack video to get around taking all the plastic off the machine, and I picked up the plastic fastener removal tool today. Then I just have to check if I have the right hex head sockets to do the front and rear differentials.

Well at least your doing it yourself and not paying someone. If I had a trailer and somebody close to do it, I'd likely have paid them When I lived at the old place and my mower would take a shit, I'd call the place I bought it from, have them come pick it up, fix it, and return it to me. Not an option around here

The only experience I’ve had with mower deck issues was a couple years ago we had to replace a couple pins and I didn’t have the tools to do it. My brother was away on a fishing trip and I told my sister in-law not to use the mower and that I’d fix it the next weekend. The next weekend we got up there and my sister in-law had the deer in the headlights look. She’d forgotten about the deck and have driven the mower 3.5 loops around the lawn dragging the deck. There was clear drag tracks left in the lawn that she should have seen on the first loop. Well that’s the last time she mowed the lawn.

We all know the best way to avoid doing laundry is to do it wrong a couple times.

Not an option around here I have a retired small engine mechanic(not Outboard’s) living two miles away. If he is feeling ok, he does repairs and he has a graveyard of used equipment for parts.

There's a guy in town who I could probably get to fix a mower for me, but he isn't "quick".
