A single 3 day hunt this year instead of 2 separate 2 day hunts. October 29-31. Up to 2500 permits to be issued. 2 deer limit.
I doubt I will participate, haven't bow hunted in a few years. The three day hunt during prime days is making me reconsider.

I haven’t hunted there in two years. I have just as good of hunting elsewhere and I don’t have the crowds and circus of waiting in line.
Some nice bucks will be taken. So be it.
Truth is that I no longer enjoyed the hunt there. I like to drive in and look at the habitat.

If it’s cold, that could be a really good hunt. Nice option for archery guys!

2,303 applicants for the 2,500 permits. (click on the link in the first post for more info.) I can remember when it took us 2-3 years to get a permit.

I can remember when it took us 2-3 years to get a permit. Is it the miss-management that’s driving people away or just less hunters in general. It use to be a huge draw. I don’t know for sure. Decades back there were very large groups of hunters from Wisconsin that would hunt it. They would organize large drives of blocks of land. I do not know if they apply any more or not. Several reasons. 1. Deer numbers are down as compared to decades back. 2. Several packs of wolves are now in Camp. 3. Hunters I know from about a 30 mile radius now have better hunting for nice bucks outside of Camp. 4. Most of these hunters have aged. 5. Some hunters feel the other seasons in Camp are now educating the deer. On a personal level, I don’t have a climbing stand and don’t know if I could get one up a tree anyway, due to age and a back problem. I haven’t seen as many deer as in the past in Camp and I don’t enjoy the pace of the hunt. There is an early morning rush to put stands in prime spots and afterwards there are hunters wandering around looking for spots. You will see some deer from these hunters moving them. I prefer sitting in a ladder stand on private ground and waiting for more natural deer movement. I favor peace and quiet in my bow hunting instead of all of the pressured movement.

Used to be that most of the state was lottery, now with more deer everywhere it is less of a draw to even apply for a special hunt.

It always sounded like a mad rush to your spot. Not into that . It’s beautiful country, but it’s too many people for me!

I bowhunted Crow Hassan park one time. One time. That was the last time for any "park" type hunt.
Very frustrating to say the least. Especially when you see someone walking around during prime time evening dusk.

Especially when you see someone walking around during prime time evening dusk. That is why I always liked the far northwoods hunts. Bow hunting or after the opening weekend of rifle, you could always find a place to be left alone and watch natural deer movement. You can’t expect the big racks like farm country, but can enjoy a peaceful day in the woods.
