Somehow my zone is now in the early doe season in MN? With harvest up to 5 does on Oct 21-24? Zone 277 will be included. This is not a "full of deer zone" by any means? I just can't hardly believe it?
It also is the youth season, and it says party hunting is allowed? Huh?
*If someone shot 5 does on that weekend, they could then still shoot another 3 does throughout the season--so 8 does total. Insane!

If a guy has public ground near by, this can really screw up your hunting. If you don't, and the hunters around you on private ground aren't greedy pigs...it's no big deal.

Well, I agree, but how f... dumb are they? We have never been over a 2 doe limit, now it jumped to 8?? This state is so idiotic, I literally cannot believe it!

The deer managers (I use that term very loosely) in the MN DNR don't have a clue. I've given up trying to figure out deer management in this state. All I do is what I do, and hope the neighbors follow my lead. I think a lot of deer hunters around here completely ignore the MN DNR deer "rules". They go out, shoot the buck they want to shoot and maybe a doe if they need more meat. Very, very few guys I know will shoot more than 2 deer in a year. Most only want one.

Yes I am pissed, a friend called me and said he heard about it at a party this weekend, and I said, no I don't think so...but sure as shit he was right! I have three parcels in the (277) zone and they are all good, but Geez not more than 2 does per person, 1 bonus would be about right! STUPID !

I feel we no longer have biologists but ecologists in the wildlife manager positions.

I used to feel that way with only 1/4 mile between my land and the wildlife management area. We haven’t had early antlerless for quite a while until this year, but the youth season probably moves deer onto my property and away from the pressure. The pressure is before the regular season and kind of in pretty. I am trying to look at the bright side.

I bowhunted the last two years during the early antlerless/youth hunt. I'd guess I heard fewer than 10 shots that I'd say were aimed at deer. Plenty of "normal" weekend shooting, but that's a weekly occurrence. We drive around most every weekend. I noticed zero hunters on the few blocks around us.
Like I said, on/near public land I'm sure it sucks balls. Around here it's a non-event (so far anyway)

What’s really stupid is this zone was lottery a few years ago. Never more than 2 does ever., and Zone 240 (Parkers Prairie/Battle Lake/Hewitt) doesn’t have this early season and it has way more deer and way more cover ??

The best thing for Minnesota hunting is to enjoy the hunt and completely ignore what other hunters shoot . There is nothing else we can do but manage our own land and hunt how we like. There is always another nice buck around. He might not be as big as we like, but that is the way it is.
