I just bought a three pack cellular set-up by Cudde Back. Base unit and two slave cameras that are routed to the base unit. I get more gigs that I will use for $20 / Month. Stop and start at will. I am on the Verison platform. Get notifications on computer or phone depending what you want. Can be used for winter "survailance / protection" and /or as game cameras. Anyone else with this set up?? Kinda happy with my purchase and they set it all up with batteries and camera cards and put my access into the computer and all. Also got big battery packs for these that will go for 6 months....or can recharge with solar panels.....which I did not buy (yet) as they are sold out. Kinda excited to try this stuff. Maybe this weekend will get these into action.

Doing some reading now....and will likely get them up over the weekend. Stay tuned.

or can recharge with solar panels Are you sure you wanna open the door on this? I'll have new material for you for years. Are you sure you want to go with a reliable off-grid source of free and endless power, not beholden to the whims of the double-A manufacturers in china, or our ever feeble just in time inventory delivery system? Choose wisely grasshopper.

The battery for my fishing boat lift has been declining for a while....and I hoped I could limp through the year with it was shot about two months ago....and I was busy with my wife's health care since that event. Today I thought I'd see if it was charged by the solar panel....and when I hit the switch THE FREAKING BATTERY EXPLODED.....just like the on my other lift in May. It blew the cover and strap off the battery box and blew the top of the battery off. I had my face pretty close by (maybe 3 feet away) and could feel allot of the shock....and immediately was breathing toxic fumes. Got away from the area without another breath. Wicked Schmidt. I never got around to putting a charge limiting device on this one (put one on the other solar charger). This chit really upsets me. feel like suing the company that makes these. They should not sell a unit that can blow up in your face.....TWICE! (same company) Just a few hours prior to this event....I had a heart monitor device attached to my chest....(adhesive with battery pack and stuff) ....and after that explosion my heart was aching to the point I wss ready to push the "event' button. Gonna attach a pic in a few minutes to show this gadget. I gotta wear it for a week ....and then send it in for some expert to read and interpret what is going on with my heart rhythm. (not keeping the beat....it's high....and when I overdo it....it cavitates....and I will black out ----Laymans terms). F'n BIDEN!

I'm glad you weren't hurt, but you gotta get that figured out. I'd rip all that stuff out and start fresh. You should be able to have one solar panel, one charge controller, and one battery bank. Do you know how much power your stuff pulls? What do you all have running on that power out there?

Do you know how much power your stuff pulls? What do you all have running on that power out there? This is a very commonly used system to power 12 volt boat hoists. I'd say 7 out of ten boat hoists sold today are powered via solar / 12 volt / electric motor. Not rocket science. All these are self contained units so you can take 'em in and out of the water. The solar panel and system is made right here in Brainerd.....and they NOW offer the charge limiting device as an OPTION for about $175 (the freaking bandits). I bought one at Mills FF for $35 and it seems to work fine. My big boat lift is 12 volt solar charged with an electric over hydraulic system to lift 6,000 out of the water (big boats). It's a Shore Station Lift....and withstands big windstorms and such.....yet it all has to come out of the lake each fall and in again in spring. Tsk, Tsk, Tsk.....you really have so much to learn.

I can design one better than that. I'd put the solar panel and battery box on shore and run conduit under your dock and out to your lifts. Then all you have to do is unplug it from the dock and pull the dock out, and leave the batteries hooked to the panel all winter, with a proper charge controller, as a tender. How much power those lifts use matters though. Then when Art and I go ice fishing, we can run an extension cord from the battery box out to the fishhouse. We like to play Mario Cart when the bite gets slow.

I need to remove my dock each fall too....just like the lifts....or the ice will crush some pretty expensive stuff to smithereens. I do not like having to string wires each year....and I do not like high voltage and water or low volage and water. Electric and water dont play well together. having said this;.....I do have three large batteries in my fishing boat.....and I want to be able to charge THREE BATTERIES overnight - from dead - to fully charged BY MORNING. Do you have anything in a moonlight battery charger?? I think NOT!. I do string a HD 110 volt cord of 125 feet in length under my dock each year....and zip tie it to the dock structure. I then can recharge my boat via a Minkota 3 bank charger unit that does all thee batteries at one time. Thus my batteries can be charged by GRID power on moonlit nights or cloudy days....or days when the sun is covered with smoke...as of late. You come up with more goofy chit than any three chinamen. lol. . Did I mention this is not my first Rodeo? Modelo on. You owe me.

I laughed out loud at that one. I'm gonna use that in the future myself. Ok, so you run an extension cord out there anyway? Why not just run a regular grid line through properly fastened conduit all the way out there then? Put a junction box on land to kill the power over the water when you're not using it, and put a disconnect in the line where the land meets the dock so you don't have to restring it every year? I imagine no electrician or insurance company would ever sign off on my idea or yours, but I think lots of those steps could be eliminated, and some safety added. I've only had one rodeo.

I had a cuddlink camera for just less than a year. Piece of crap broke and was unrepairable according to customer service. I didn't try a second one.

I had a cuddlink camera for just less than a year. Piece of crap broke and was unrepairable according to customer service. I didn't try a second one. Yeah...I do believe that folks have had bad experiences with most of this stuff that is on the market. There were three guys working the counter at Archery Country yesterday. All three had Cudde-link systems in use. Two of these guys had up to twenty cameras in their system....all linked to one "master" camera that then links to your computer or phone. Also can authorize up to ten people to access the pictures taken by the Cudde Link camera system. Pretty sweet set up. Hope mine works and lasts. Seems most of these guys now offer stop and start monthly or annual plans to support the cameras. I'm told that Cudde has free firmware updates that will continue to occur through the life of the product. I'm told they provide better support than most in the biz. I have no experience....just acting on what I was told by a reputable outfit here in MN. Time will tell. There is a warranty on all this stuff. I was told that typically you can locate "slave" cameras up to 1/4 mile or so from the master unit....then daisy chain them to get progressively farther away (depending on the strength of the signal) as you locate the cameras for use. Logic would tell me I could get up to about 4 miles away from the master camera....providing all the cameras are charged and operational that are in that "daisy chain".

Been using the CL system for 3 years now. Love it. A bit of a learning curve to get started, but smooth sailing since. No better system available to run up to 24 cams tied to one cellular plan for $20/month. I run 2 networks on 2 different properties. You'll want the D battery packs for wooded non-solar option if you plan on leaving out 3+ months. Set your batch to 1hr and you get an update on your phone every hour (if there's pics). Most of the settings can be set/changed online as well. There's a dedicated FB group which is helpful for your troubleshooting needs.
