If I was retired. If I could work remotely, I'd probably be able to do it too. Anything is better than winter here. Golf, beach, hike, pickleball, tennis, swim, fish, etc. All kinds of outdoor activities to do down there. There's a few days. What do I do for the other 110? I understand that lots of "old" folks have their weekly schedules of activities. Maybe I could do that someday, but I doubt it. I'm not a real social kinda guy. I need to do something productive after a few days of sitting around doing nothing (which is what I'd call golf, beach, hiking, pickleball, etc.). Right now, I can vacation and enjoy it for about a week. After that, I'm looking to do some work of some kind. This is one big thing that I think about when I'm debating owning and renting. Unless I can change how I think regarding "doing nothing" I'll need a place of my own so I have some kind of work to do. Buy a couple-ten places and be your own handy man.

Take up wood-working, Physical fitness, clubs (Yes there is a beer drinking club), cooking, eating out and many more. If you only want to do your habitat work then you have your answer.

Not to mention 1000's of miles of off road trails that have great joints at some intervals....with great beer and burgers. I belong to 1/2 dozen off road clubs....and they organize 'meetups" for trail rides and normally limit these to about 10 vehicles. More often they have 4 to 6 vehicles which is about "right" for me. To get too many more it becomes a Cluster Flock....and takes the fun out of it. But riding alone can be problematic too....as it's easy to get high centers or to perhaps lose a driveshaft bearing (grin) or some such thing. To me....wheeling in OZ is about the most fun you can have with your pants on. PLUS there is hunting and fishing that is fantastic - you just gotta be able to 'get there" ......and a Jeep or good UTV can provide the travel means. I dont like the UTV's in OZ....not that they are not fun....but it is too hot and dusty IMO......and that takes the fun out of it for me....and especially my wife. After one ride on the trails in a UTV....my wife would quit....I can assure you that. And so would MOST of yours. Jeep ON.

FWIW my wife and I plan to go the large 5th wheel route and travel to warmer states Jan-April. You can pick up and go where you want and not be tied down to a single place and also not have to rent/buy. Since we both work from home we may even do it sooner than later. The only thing about this is.....as you get "old" pulling that chit around becomes a chore. The other only thing is that the moment you buy that rig....it is depreciating. After 10 years....it's not very valuable...except for the memories. I know allot of folks that have paid as much as 400,000 for their diesel pusher motorhome, They are pretty nice.....but not in any way a good "investment". I have not lost any money on buying real estate. I like city water, sewer, wi-fi and cable without the hassles of setting all that chit up every day. Still....I know there is adventure in the RV life. it's got far less allure as you get older. Just saying.

My wife and I once had a cabin and a home. The cabin is gone and for now, one home is enough to keep up. I don’t think the RV life is for us, but the suggestion was for Brad.

I did watch the neighbor last year in FL. He was an Asian feller who had beautiful flowers/shrubs/plantings. He'd be out there doing something for a few hours most every day. If I owned a few inland acres in FL I could stay pretty busy keeping the place looking nice. Clubs mean people. I'm not great at "peopling"

I know you were referring to Stu. In my case, I prefer to work my own land and make my own mistakes without a single person or a group of people (club) telling me what to do. I couldn’t take someone giving me direction on an enjoyable hobby or it would become work.

That wouldn't be the worst thing, that's for sure. My problem is that I've been working on my own schedule for quite awhile now. Anybody who "employed" me would have to be awfully flexible I've considered hanging out a shingle here and doing habitat work for hire a number of times. I imagine I could stay busier than I'd want just doing work on fruit trees and spraying buckthorn in the winter.

No direct experience, but my cousins (older than me by 4 and 6 years) who live near Lake Havasu have a fleet of RZRs and just love them. I have a feeling they're out running and gunning, not rock crawling and going to old ghost towns though.

I have a feeling they're out running and gunning, not rock crawling and going to old ghost towns though. There was a time I considered one of those razors....and they look like a blast to own and drive - at times. But I talked with four guys that ride together when they were hanging out at the end of the day....and sipping beers before they loaded up their machines. I asked them if their wives ever rode along....and to a man they all said their wives wouldn't go again after one trip. Too dusty and dirty for the wives....and some were too scared to ride along at high speeds these guys tend to drive. They were all about my same age. They had nice machines and all wore some respirators in order to breathe clean air. (This is also a good way to get valley fever as it seems to come from dust in the desert.) A nice Jeep is not much more money and you can stay clean and breathe clean air, take another couple with you....drive it on the highways and use it as a second vehicle....or an only vehicle for that matter. I can take it hunting and more. Or....after buying a razor....you may need a good tow vehicle and a trailer to haul it and space to store the vehicle(s)....which is not easy in a gated community. I can see that at times the Razors could be fun....but after the initial thrill is gone....and IF you do not kill yourself going blindly over the top of a ridge at high speed.....I am glad I chose to go to a Jeep-type vehicle. My wrangler rubicon is badd azz.

smsmith may your 'warm destination' away from MN winters should be like New Mexico or a state like that where you can befriend some ranchers and do some fence mending and that kind of stuff to keep your work preferences alive.
Ever think of something like that?

I've considered New Mexico, but my wife has no interest in living there. No ocean/gulf....no moving there. At least that's her stance so far. To be fair, I like the gulf too.

I'd like to see NM, but moving there/spending winters there isn't on the "possibilities" list.
The more we go to SW FL, the more we both enjoy that area.
I understand why others don't like FL. I lived a year in Pensacola and when I left I never planned to see FL again. I was wrong.
