I also found some spruce seedlings with easy access to dig. Now where should I plant them?

I'll be honest, I've been spending lots of time on the Itasca website watching what they still have available. It isn't much. No black spruce left, no black hills spruce, no white pine, no red pine, no norways, no white spruce. Looks like i'm only going to have ditch trees. That's ok. I think I can knock out 100 rehomes in a short day, and frankly, that would cover any openings I've got.

I figured they'd be sold out of a bunch of stuff pretty quickly

No doubt. I said I was done planting fruit trees. Have fucking 10 coming this spring. I was done after the drought last summer and was sick of watering them. So this fall, I planted 3 more and have two more in pots in the garden. I also planted about 10 groups of apple seeds. I am contemplating some pears, but I don’t know where to put them. Crab apples just seem like more of a sure thing than pears in this climate. Sure thing pears here are pretty limited. Ure, Early Gold, and Golden Spice are about all that I'd say are bullet proof. In a couple more years I may be able to give a few other varieties the thumbs up.

I had a “Cabot” and an “Ely” pear from SLN that were looking very nice as third year trees at Camp Kooch. I hope he takes care of them.

I've found the rootstock to be the limiting factor with some pears here. Any of the OHxF series are susceptible to winter injury/death when there isn't snow cover and temps get into the -25 or lower range. Any future pears here will be on ussurian rootstocks.

I have about 4 extra varieties tacked on my pear tree and I now get a few pears. Ely and Beierschmit come to mind.

I have about 4 extra varieties bracket on my pear tree and I no get a few pears. Ely and Beierschmit come to mind. Ely, Beierschmitt, Nova, Patten, Lucious, Cabot, Walden Large, Southworth, and Okolo are all worth a shot. This year I added Kaspar's Winter, Cabot Vermont (not the same as Cabot), and Dana Hovey from Fedco.

When I sold my land I took a couple dozen dolgo seedlings, a golden hornet, and a honey crisp with me. They had been in ground three years. All survived the move back to my camp.

I'm starting from scratch. Will be fun. I did pull three ditch trees from up North and transplant them at the farm though.
