I used to spend a week bow hunting in the NE corner of the Chippewa National Forest. That was usually a September hunt or early October hunt.
Deer numbers have dropped and I no longer hunt there.
In Minnesota we are only allowed one buck per year. It would be easier to hunt earlier if I could kill one with the bow and one with the rifle like Wisconsin.
We will see what happens, but I really don’t want to shoot a deer before rifle season. If a big one stands in front of me, that might change.

Maybe that guy's a better hunter than I am. I used to bowhunt a lot. Like 3-5 nights a week from the opener on, usually 2-3 hours a sit. I shot plenty of young bucks. I also needed to get out and hunt a lot then to deal with life's stressors. I have since learned to hunt less and life has much less stress for me now. Unless I am fully prepared to deal with tracking, recovering, caping, icing, and getting the cape to the taxidermist...I don't hunt. If it isn't going to the taxidermist, I'm not shooting it. Your strategy makes complete sense. I can't understand why this guy is killing bucks so consistently? I just know it changed my philosophy on that property. We are going in to the best spots earlier now. Bait

No he is not baiting. I can see him from my stand, and here him grunting.
He has clipped shooting lanes into my land. I do know that.

I get bored sitting by myself so I go hunting, it's not productive. I hunt 99% state/federal land, on decent deer trails but it's not an easy thing in my area as the acorns are light this year and the wood are mostly jack pine forest.

We are going in to the best spots earlier now. My neighbor had some odd hunting plans, but still occasionally tagged a good one. Then the DNR caught him hunting over a bait pile and it all started to make more sense. Frequently refreshed bait near thick cover is an unbelievable combo. Especially in areas where baiting is illegal. Your neighbor could be completely legal and just has it all figured out, but you never know.

1 sit, 1 shot 1 doe. Maybe this weekend again if the forecast for cooler weather holds up.

I sat twice last weekend but I sat in stands that are safe. I mostly wanted to get out and observe what was going on with the deer and I got that. On my place there was little to no sign of the rut so I will give it a couple weeks before I try again. I watch my cell cam for activity so hopefully I'll see some better bucks begin to move and that will let me know its time to hunt.

I have not hunted yet. My Lymes disease kicked my ass for a while. Feeling better now. As soon as I get back from my wife's fisher trapping I will be hunting.
