The dogs died a bunch of years back. moving on...
I will try to keep things more simple.
Found this video from 2019 of what looked like a typical buck bed to me at the time.
What do you notice? I believe there was a very light breeze out of the direction I am facing the majority of the video. That is darn near a cliff directly ahead with frozen water below. Under an evergreen. A downed tree top for added cover.

Wish I had taken a better video, had just kicked up deer, seen a white tail. Here is what looked like the deer eating away at the lichen from the fallen dead tree. (hoof prints all around the tree) The tree had fallen just maybe 15 feet from a pair of fir trees that looked to be the main beds for a doe group. So, I don't think they were looking for this, but if food falls in your lap you eat it.

. Neat animal. I have mouse squeaked with my lips and called them to the base of my tree while bow hunting.

A view from a recent ladder stand. An ancient permanent stand nearby.

The property I hunted in Ohio had beds like that on every high ground point that had strep drop offs. Most were fingers that dropped off steeply on two sides at a point. There was probably 100 of those spots all over the property. Each of them had beds and several rubs.

Do you think that area had been fields that had grown into woods over the last 20 years? Those trees don’t look that thick or very large??

If the trees were ever harvested it was 100 plus years ago.. I did see evidence of a very old forest fire not too far away from the stand, so maybe the whole area had been burnt in the not so distant past.
