Wouldn't the skunk smell horrible even if it didn't spray when killed? I've had a few die without spraying, but I don't remember them being scent-free by any stretch. Some of them have some excellent looking fur though. I've trapped 5 or 6 in the last couple of weeks. This is the first one to stink. The others I've kept at arms distance without noticeable odor. Of course I didn't tempt fate and stick my nose on them, but I did have to walk them 100yds to a dump.

Trying something new for a yote set. A little glandular lure in a hole, a dead coon, and some some yote pee on it. Doubt it works but ya never know. Might as well try stuff and find out.

I buried a coon near a chestnut tree this summer. Something dug it up and took it several weeks later.
Is it illegal to bait with an animal carcass? I’m not educated on the rules but I think The Trooper told me that in a text. You do run the risk of vultures getting in a trap if they are still around this time of year. Don’t ask how I know.

The hole with the lure is under the log, blue dot. The trap pan is the red dot, a couple of inches to the right of the hole. The wind is wrong tonight but should be good the rest of the week.

That's a great question! Caused me to do some research and I didn't come up the actual answer so I may be pulling that carcass up tomorrow. I know it is legal to bait yotes in KS, can't find specifics on what bait is. Read the first paragraph of this link (I like the whole article). Gives a decent idea of how the state feels about coyotes. ksoutdoors.com/Hunting/Furharvesting/Furbearers/Coyote

Different set than the one above (I'm moving the coon btw). Beautiful dog!

Congratulations! My Dad always said it took a great trapper to catch coyote or fox. He struggled with those.
Coon, muskrats, mink, beaver, and an occasional otter were what I remember. I was pretty much only involved in the spring beaver trapping season.
One year we bought a boat trailer with the beaver trapping money. The next year we decided we wanted a bigger boat and the beaver trapping money went for an 18 foot Lund. Open boat, nothing fancy.

Should have caught 2 last night. They were all over this set but it apparently froze up. The one I did catch is pretty with dark guard hairs.
