Minnesota allows a person that has difficulty pulling back a bow to use a Crossbow correct? Need a signed medical statement? I like the set up they have now.

I met with the crossbow lobby few years back and said MNBowhunters would likely support crossbow inclusion to manage excess deer in areas decided by the voters of MN - note a govt agency goal. They took a hard pass.

This may piss some people off but I was never for crossbows in archery for ANY reason, including age. Always thought if you gave an inch they would take a mile. Plus, I figure someday I'll be too old or injured to run a marathon. When that day comes I won't do marathons anymore. Same goes with driving, hunting, and a lot of other things in life. Once I can no longer do something I'll shift to something else. Fact of life. With that said I don't give a damn what someone uses and have shot a couple of deer with a crossbow myself. I sent letters and emails. Didn't win that fight so go with the flow.

I used to be very strongly against crossbow inclusion in the archery season. I did support their use in the firearm season.
Now, I don't really give a shit. In MN you can legally shoot one buck. If you shoot it with a vertical bow, a crossbow, or a firearm the end result is the same...a dead buck. Will allowing crossbows in the archery season in MN lead to an increased buck kill? I have my doubts. Will it lead to an increased number of bucks shot in the archery season? I would strongly suspect so.

One example would be northwoods areas where bow hunting is one either sex, but rifle hunting has zero or few doe tags. This might also apply to some of the open country areas. Is anywhere in Mn, bucks only for bow season?

Same deal with guys who want to shoot "big bucks" but then shoot bucks that aren't big. It's not the MN DNR or MDHA's fault I shot two bucks two years in a row that didn't score over 140".

With party hunting in Minnesota you can shoot more than one buck. There was a guy west of town a few years back that shot 5 one year. Sad.
Many guys just keep hunting, they tag it in their wife’s tag, or friends. It’s unfortunate, but this adds to age structure issue. My neighbor for instance shot a 2.5 year buck this year and I saw him in orange again during shotgun . They don’t “call it a season” . You add more weapons and seasons it’s just more deer shot, more bucks shot…less chance of a buck surviving.

The only thing that changes somebody like that is when their buddies tell them they're fucktards. Problem is, most of their buddies are probably also fucktards. MN deer hunting is what it is. Buy the right parcel with the right neighbors and you might have some pretty decent hunting. Buy the wrong parcel with the wrong neighbors and it's gonna suck.

Fucktard is a neglected and underused word. It’s one of my favorites.

Fucktard is a neglected and underused word. It’s one of my favorites. I am afraid it will only get worse in Minnesota. Rifles in farm country, crossbows, more bonus tags. No management whatsoever, just kill the deer. The DNR has no in the system that I know of, willing to listen or even try anything new, except add more seasons and kill more deer.

You need to come to terms with the fact that what you want and what the MN DNR wants are in direct opposition to each other. Once I did that, I stopped worrying about the deer management here. All I can do is all I can do

I’ll fight to stop the new seasons/crossbows, voice my opinion. But, I’m getting older and I guess I’ll spend more time hunting elsewhere. This state is a nice place to live . I’ll always have a home here.
But the political leadership on all levels (which includes the DNR) is frustrating as hell. Maybe time to sell something and buy in South Dakota.
Kooch made a smart move there.

I would never have chosen MN as a place to live if it weren't for the wife and step-kids. Central Minnesotans are good people and for the most part I don't hate living where we do. That said, I'd move to SoDak or somewhere else "free" if the wife ever gets ready to move farther from the kids/grandkid. The politics here are sickening and the MN DNR game management is laughable. Most MN deer hunters aren't my kind of hunters either.

I am not sure if you can split that? I would buy land in SD and have a shed house or something.

Places like the one I'm staying in right now (on a canal near Nokomis, FL) were selling for around $300-$400K three years ago. Now, they're selling for $650K+ and this one needs some interior upgrades. The time to buy in FL is shortly after a devastating hurricane (sad, but true). Lots of folks get scared and go back home in the north somewhere. When it's been a few years since a major storm, prices get pretty astronomical. For instance, the place we stayed in last year sold for around $180K after the 2017 hurricane (Irma). The guy bought it, dumped around $125K into a pool/screened in lenai and some interior remodeling. It just sold last July for about $400K. He didn't get rich off the place, but he and his family had a nice vacation place for a few years and then made a few bucks from selling it. We've decided we're either going to live in FL or MN, not own homes in both places. We'll likely remain MN residents (gag) and rent a nice place for 1-3 months in SW FL every winter. This book is a bit dated and a bit biased, but worth a read if you can find it for cheap "The Florida Move Guide: The Unofficial Moving to Florida Warning, Decision and Help Guide"
