Outstanding!
With our declining turkey population, maybe this should be mandatory before buying a turkey tag.
I’ve been inspired to buy some dog proof.

You gotta kill 10 coon to get a turkey tag haha. Would be sad to standby while the population goes down the drain I'm sure the guys who remember having quail back in the day could relate. Dogproofs are the best man easiest way to catch coon and possum and from what I understand they're the biggest predator of turkey nests.

Dogproofs kick ass for ease and targeting. No worries about pets or unwanted critters. Super easy to set. Easy to bait. Very effective. Etc.

Lol I wish I could get my skunks in dogproof. They don't hit on them over here. I usually have to deal with them in footholds or in 5x5's haha

I’ve been reading a little on a trapping forum. If a person were to buy a few footholds for coyotes, what is really necessary for trap prep?
People talk about soaking in vinegar, letting them rust, dying and waxing, etc. What is actually needed?

The prepping is so they don't rust and de-scenting. Some people paint them. When you use foot holds in a freeze/thaw environment you either have to use wax dirt or calcium chloride and a few other options to prevent the trap from freezing up.

I do the dying and wax (actually find it a relaxing activity). As said above; de-scent, protection, and speed.

I’ve been reading a little on a trapping forum. If a person were to buy a few footholds for coyotes, what is really necessary for trap prep? People talk about soaking in vinegar, letting them rust, dying and waxing, etc. What is actually needed? For me the first thing I do is power wash the factory grease off them. Or soap em up with some dawn and rinse em off good. They're slick out of the box with that grease. Then let me sit out wet to get the rust for a couple days. Boil em in Logwood dye. I throw a block of wax in with it as it sits on the top so when you pull the dye trap up it coats the trap. You can degrease them and use them raw but will be a rusty mess. The dye protects your metal. They also have this stuff called speed dip you mix a can of it with gasoline then just dip your traps in it... the dip locks into the metal and coats the steel black. Let them air out and gas to evaporate a few days. I've never done it on my coyote traps but have done several beaver and muskrat traps with it. Like mentioned below you can paint them too. I wouldn't get too hung up on it. As long as you get that grease off and treat them with some kind of protecting finish and have plenty of time to air dry and get any chemical smell off you'll be good.

Reagan you can also just throw them in the dishwasher out of the box to get the grease off just don't let the chains dangle through and smack into you sprayer or your old lady might be having some words with you haha

Neighbor up north shot this yote today Female. Look at the tail and all the scars on the legs. not to mention missing a leg. The snow is very deep up there, and how the hell this thing made it is amazing. (He took the pic in the cattle yard, hence not much snow)

That tail looks like the start of mange. Yotes are incredibly good at surviving and tough as nails. I've killed several tripods that were completely healed over and healthy.
