That link didn't work for me, but I have a fiskars extendable pole saw that works really well. It has a loopers thing with a rope attached to it as well.
I bought mine at fleet farm, but I can't remember the price

My 80 year old Mom uses one around her yard. Works well enough. I have been impressed with it, but I thought it would fall apart the first time I touched it. For water sprouts it should do fine, not sure how long it would hold up to 1" limbs.

Nice looking unit, I like the idea of an internal mechanism rather than the external rope. It gets good reviews. The only concern I would have is how to get it un-stuck if it binds on a branch. The rope models have the same problem but I'm not sure how the internal unit will work for loosening the tension.

I have one that also has a saw blade on it. Works great but 1" limbs better be a soft wood though.

I've got a rope model and it works fine. I've cut branch's up to 1.25 and sawed off up to 3". Saw blade is tricky as is somewhat flexible but it works. I haven't had a problem with the rope being exposed. I can see issues with the chain model getting rusty.

They do okay for a lot of pruning, but for removing vertical sprouts from nearly horizontal limbs they suck. You end up leaving spikes or nubs instead of nice, flat cuts.

Mines an old Fiskars had it for 15 shit maybe even 20 years.

Had to feed the birds so I took a pic of mine. Yep, I've got a couple of those. They do a lot of trimming well, but removing watersprouts isn't one of those things.

Got a few decent reviews from some fruit growers, so I went ahead and ordered the extension lopper. Hope it works well for at least a few years.

Had to feed the birds so I took a pic of mine. I have that one too but, if I were Stu I'd save the $80 and put it towards an 8' aluminum apple ladder.

The only orchard ladders I can find somewhat locally are fiberglass from Home Depot (order to store, none kept in stock) about an hour away. I'd probably drive that far for an aluminum one at a reasonable price, but don't want the fiberglass model. Otherwise, I can pay a couple hundred bucks to have a $270ish dollar aluminum one delivered.
