Turk numbers have really dropped in our area up in OTC the last handful of years. Odd. They were very high not long ago.
Putting out a couple cell cams on 2 spots this weekend. Spots that were high percentage places not long ago. Last year very slow. My son bow hunts so he has all season. We got very few pics all spring last year and he saw very very few birds. Not just toms, but turks in general. This winter was tough, so it wont help.

Probably the 1 reason that turkey numbers are dropping is because nobody is trapping raccoons. I can't believe how many coons I have on cam.

Probably the 1 reason that turkey numbers are dropping is because nobody is trapping raccoons. I can't believe how many coons I have on cam. I was visiting with my brother in law and he feels the coon population around his farm has fallen because of the presence of more fishers. I live 15 miles from him and I have seen increasing fisher numbers in the last 5-10 years. From your experiences, do you think fishers kill all coon, or just younger coon, or none of the above? I think most if not all wildlife populations go in cycles and are always in flux.

Raccoon is not a preferred food for fisher. I suppose if there was a lack of porcupine, rabbits and squirrels they might go after coon. When coon populations get real high distemper tends to reduce their numbers.

I think bad winters can wipe them out pretty good. Bird flu going around this year too might have some impact. . Count your blessings! I like turkeys. They are delicious. I’ll never understand your hate for them. Listening to spring hobbles from the blind isn’t a bad way to spend a morning. They usually wake me up from my nap from having to get up at some stupid time.

They usually wake me up from my nap from having to get up at some stupid time. They have ruined quite a few of my evening hunts during rifle season. Thins were much better when they weren’t around. If I could keep them off of my place year around, I would be happy. I do like to hear an occasional gobble in the spring while I am outside.

I have begun to see deer and turkeys together in the field during the last few years. Perhaps it takes years to get used to each other. I think the deer don’t like all of the noise in the woods from the turkeys, especially if they can’t see each of the turkeys.

I haven't noticed any adverse deer behavior in our river bottoms between the two. Don't see as many turkeys at our hill place. Shit a few years ago my Dad shot a turkey and a deer in the same afternoon/night.

I get lots of pics every fall with deer and turks together. I dont see any contention amongst them.
