I’ve actually never checked how deep . My guess is 8 feet. I think I’d need an aerator to keep fish alive ? Have you ever tried fishing it? I'm sure you have minnows there since they seem to survive in deep mud puddles. Maybe you could get lucky and have a few game fish too. My neighbor put in a simple aerator and it worked well in the winter. Does that pond draw in the ducks in the fall?

I did some mowing out at the 40 today . The apple trees are looking very good at this point. *the house in the background had a family with 9 kids😳… it’s so small. That is beautiful country. I think back to the stories of how my Dad and Grandparents survived the Depression and the house they lived in. They always said they were the lucky ones compared to the relatives in St Paul. My family had venison, fish from the lake, a garden and they farmed. It was a struggle to find feed for the cattle, but my Dad’s family had food. They got by with what they had.

It is beautiful country. I like the pond. Does it's water level fluctuate much? My dad's pond gets very low most winters, I'm always surprised when fish survive. Might have fish that you don't know about.

If you see the map, I don’t own all of it, so that’s a factor. It’s in the middle of my hunting spots too. So for the most part we don’t shoot ducks back there either. Maybe I’ll drop some crappies in ? We have had clover plots along the edges at times and that’s a big draw . Great spot for cameras .

Aerators can be solar/battery powered. I would avoid crappie if it were me in favor of yellow perch or even channel cats. With that said I'm not real familiar with water up north so take that with a grain of salt.

I've read that perch can take lower oxygen levels than other panfish for what it's worth. I don't think it would hurt anything to throw a few species in there and see what happens.

I suppose I should throw out a minnow trap to see if anything is in there. Years ago it looked like some minnows were popping the surface.

The beaver pond at my WI place freezes solid in the winter and it is still filled with mud minnows.

Last night was “get some shit done” at the 40. Mowed clover and trails. Here are a few pics … The planted oak is a Swamp White Oak !

My son and I put up a new stand close to the farm site.,,200 foot walk at best . Right amongst the Bur Oaks . Easy access in and out. View from the stand .

Friend of mine shot a doe on our 40 today. They really came in to the plots tonight. Neighbor did cover crop (turnips/rye) and it’s drawing deer into the big woods. Good action tonight. (Note-yes he did have orange on)

That’s a nice doe. How are the deer numbers in that area?
It is pretty crazy to see how a big ag field planted to cover crops can draw in deer.

This is a 3 deer area with the early antlerless season. I’d say decent deer numbers. We saw 20+ deer tonight, but the deer are grouping up here. This is a big wooded area in an agricultural area. The habitat is pretty good in this Township . Here is a pic of the neighbors green cover crop … he spent some money on this. It’s 500+ acres of tillable that he owns on the edge of the woods! **I’d rather see one buck/one doe limit.
