As part of planting corn this year I sprayed sure start 2 pre-emerge herbicide at time of planting. Well I had some areas that didn't germ for crap due to cold wet weather. Will I be able to get away with planting brassicas in those areas late July/early August or will the pre-emerge prevent them from growing? I sprayed at about 2.5 pts/acre.
If brassicas are out, anything else I can plant that deer would like? Or cover crop to keep weeds down or would you just replant corn now and it is what It is?

I can't answer the question about the herbicide, but I had a crappy looking section in my corn plot that I replanted a week ago. The corn emerged this weekend and is looking great.
If you can replant corn now you should end up with some bonus bushels.

I have E3 soybeans and it looks like I can use either enlist herbicide or liberty herbicide on them. It seems like either should control water hemp better than the round-up I previously used. Does anyone have any experience with either enlist herbicide or liberty herbicide? Any recommendations one way or the other would be appreciated since I'm not familiar with these.

Right now I spray the beans twice with glyphosate and corn once. Then I pull the water hemp by hand. I use a boom sprayer on the back of an ATV I would recommend putting down a pre first. Can’t farm without a pre for waterhemp. Then look at the weed escapes and the time of year it is to spray them. Liberty is only good when it is in the 80’s or warmer. But you should not spray Liberty after first flower. But it kills both grass and broadleaf when mixed with AMS. Enlist only kills broadleaf, no grass. But is not very effective on waterhemp when it reaches 4” plus. Kills some, not all plants. Hence the reason to put down a pre. Kill the seeds not the weeds is the way to go. Use your post spray as a rescue only. |

What do you recommend for a pre for beans and corn? I might as well try going all out and see how that goes.
I know the pre can be expensive per jug, but a jug can cover a lot of acres.

Outlook herbicide can be used as a pre for both corn and soybeans. Has good residual activity on grass and broadleaf. I didn't get the Outlook herbicide in time for planting this spring, but I have a 2.5 gallon jug to use next spring for the first time. Can you mix the outlook with a herbicide like 24D to kill any weeds that may already be growing at the time the pre-emergent herbicide is applied?
I've never used pre-emergent herbicides before, so I'm trying to come up with a plan for next year. Is just one spraying of Outlook OK for the whole year or do you spray it a second time?

The earlier you spray Outlook with a tank mix partner or not, the sooner it runs out of gas over the summer. If it were me, I would spray my burndown of 2,4D and Glyphosate, wait 2 weeks required for planting, then plant. Then put the Outlook down.

Depends on the weather to make the outlook work well and the weed pressure from the year before. I would plant Enlist E3 beans so I could come back with Liberty and Enlist over the top if needed. |
