The only way it happens is if MDHA pushes it. The only way mdha pushes it is if the dnr tells them to. And if the DNR wanted to do it, they'd just do it.

Is Leslie even still around? Isn't Barbara Keller the new "deer boss"?

Is Leslie even still around? Isn't Barbara Keller the new "deer boss"? I might have the names wrong...the gal I talked to was working in Missouri? Is that Barbara? She liked Missouri seasons. Which is mid-November gun

Keep zone 1 where it is. Have 2 and 3 start a week later. Pretty simple. Arts point on standing crops for cover is a valid point too. Start later that cover dwindles a lot.

I think getting MN's season pushed back is a pipe dream. Unless MDHA wants it, it ain't happening. MDHA is a northern MN organization, northern MN doesn't want the season pushed back. For whatever reason, MDHA is the only deer group in this state with any "pull"

Cmon Art go with the flow!! Bigger bucks! I had the same view as what you have for about twenty years and I have worked hard to get over it. Competition for bigger bucks and me whining about what Deer other hunters kill caused my wife to sit me down and have a discussion. She pointed out that my poor attitude would keep her and my daughters from hunting with me. We work hard to keep the hunt more about having fun and some good natured comments about who might get a big one. I allow my daughter and wife the best stands on opener. We also congratulate neighboring hunters who kill a nice buck and when we don’t kill him. We try to get over competing with the neighbors. The hunt shouldn’t be a hard core competition with bad feelings towards other legal hunters. This emphasis on scoring and big bucks has led to this. This year, two very nice bucks were killed by hunters far younger than me on adjoining properties. One on the fence line. We need to share the joy of the hunt with them and not grumble about moving seasons or passing them up to grow bigger. Just my two cents. It is a lot more fun to not be so intense over the hunt. Sit back and enjoy the time in the woods. Hard to do and I keep reminding myself.

It’s not a view anyone needs to work to get over ? Trying to improve hunting is not a negative it’s a huge positive!
So no interest in improving MN deer hunting? I’m all for more age, more deer survival ... theres nothing wrong with that . Everyone would benefit by it.

What does improved mean for the masses? Most dont eat "horns" as they say and dont give 2 shits.

Not sure I understand your question. But more deer survival results in more deer and more deer that are older.

Improved hunting for the masses does not mean limiting rut hunting to a handful of bowhunters. Adequate deer numbers are the key with good habitat. We need to get over this constant focus on antlers. I try hard to do this. That should not be what hunting is about.

DNR doesnt want more deer number 1. Look at this year. they predicted 200k killed. We are WAYYYYY off that mark. It will not result in pretty decisions next year if we have an average winter.
My question is more of a statement. Hunters today want to shoot now. You arent going to win them over saying that 100 lb doe this year will be 130 next year. Or that forkie will be a small 8 and bigger body next year.
aint gonna happen. I would love it, you would love it, we live in MN and it is what it is.
