Well, the first sit of the year is in the books. Think I saw 10 unique deer. 5 bucks and 5 does. Sat on our field plot in the NW corner. Wind was changing from the south mainly. Switched back and forth from east to west. Swirls in the hills. First deer out was the 2nd biggest I have on camera. The 9 pointer. And he’s just not what I’m looking for this year. He got to about 5 yards and got my wind. He turned jumped once or twice and walked off. He was with a couple other bucks. I saw one off behind him. A little basket yearling type. Then another yearling came down the north tree line but walked back in when the neighbor started making noise. I think he ran every piece of equipment he owns tonight. Guy is awol all damn year and shows up for the opener. Despite that, the screen definitely helps. I doubt I’d see anything without it because they’d be able to see him if it wasn’t there. They are curious with all the noises, including talking/shouting but it didn’t bother them too much. Then I had another little racked yearling walk right under me. Along with two does and a little fork horn. Same path as the 9 but they had no clue I was there. I think the wind was in my face then. After those another 2-3 antlerless made an appearance. Hot and humid but at least the itch was scratched. Probably wait til Friday for the next one. Much cooler forecast by then.

Rained all day here in Missouri. Much needed … but no real chance to hunt. Lightning included !

Happy to see this thread back. I think I’m holding out until Wednesday unless I can get grandma to watch my little man tonight and sneak out. Looks like a big weather drop a coming on Wednesday!

I’m out with my daughter tonight. She’s shooting any buck that walks in and gets a drink 11 yards away. Did see a deer to the north of us on its feet walking in. Note to self, I wish I would have mowed my clover this summer. I also didn’t kill off clover and plant brassicas on the whole plot, instead I planted the newer 1/2 of the plot in brassicas and they’re just so-so. Not enough sun. Need to expand the plot or do some major pruning. Been a couple of smaller bucks hanging around. Fingers crossed.

Well holy shit that got interesting quick. just had a big 11 point in the plot. Entered from NW and fed for about 10 minutes 40 yards away. Started taking a couple of steps towards us and looked like he smelled something he didn’t like. No wind but the thermals must have taken some scent over there. Walked off to the NE. Gorgeous deer. 2nd year in a row this deer gave us a show the first night out. Hadnt had that deer on camera for quite a while. This is the deer:

My dad was out tonight. Got this on the cell cam then a phone call. It’s the 2nd best one we have on camera this year. A 9 pointer. Probably in the 105-115” range. 50 yard shot from the blind we raised this spring. Right in the middle of all the food we planted this year. He also shot a Tom turkey an hour or so before this. Crazy night. Definitely his biggest deer ever. Couple trail cam pics

Congrats to him!

Congrats to the old man.
We have a 20 degree drop in temps this weekend. But season won’t be open.

Congrats to him! I love the cell cams. I knew he (the buck) was out there about an hour before he shot. He said it came in to him twice, 35 and 40 yards, but always had a deer looking at him so couldn’t get the crossbow out the window to use as a rest. He shot it at 50 finally. When I saw a pic of a deer fleeing I figured something was up then got that one.

I botched a chance at a good one tonight. Had a plan for a hang and hunt all day, but made the ole game time decision and it cost me! Pushed down the field edge another 40 yards and he went right to where I planned on setting up (fresh sign under an oak). They then all worked my way right at dark and continued to eat and “fight” until I finally got down at 8:20. I wish he had decided to do what this one had. I need to stop making costly dumb decisions! Fun night having a doe and fawn, yearling 6 pt. 2 yo 8 in bow range and seeing another 5-6 deer.
