They left quietly after 72 minutes. The little one was chewing his cud for 30 minutes while mom fed.

First sit in a new stand this morning. I love Halloween. It’s like the start of the rut to me. Always been a pretty good hunting day. Hope that holds true today.

I am back in the north country for a few days before I return home for rifle season. I drove about 80 miles before daylight and never saw a deer. That is abnormal for this time of year.

Up at land for afternoon/evening hunt. 64 degrees outside, a little warm in the Redneck blind. Don't have much hope with the warm weather. After today the next 3 days are suppose to be close to 70 degrees, think I will go golfing.

Watched a couple bucks from the house tonight. One maybe 100" the other maybe 120-130". Both were in the marsh about 100 yards from the house. Both drank for good periods of time. Proximity to water is going to be important in this warmth.

Didn't see a deer until the last 5 minutes before closing time. 5 baldies and a 4 point buck. The buck was pushing and checking all the does.

I am giving it up for bow hunting in the north country. The deer numbers just aren’t here.

I am giving it up for bow hunting in the north country. The deer numbers just aren’t here. I decided not to bow hunt at all this year. I may be done for good. Maybe I'll go again with a crossbow in the future. Not sure. I'm a slow learner. I should have given up bow hunting upon moving here. I like rut hunting and the best rut hunting is during firearm season. Good luck with the rifle this weekend Art.

In my opinion the best rut hunting is now.
If it was cooler.
We are calling for 80 this Saturday. FJB.

In my opinion the best rut hunting is now. If it was cooler. We are calling for 80 this Saturday. FJB. I've seen bucks bird dogging does as early as 10/23. The last ten years here shows buck activity really cranking up around 11/3 with what I would peak rut right around 11/8-11/10. That said, my wife and I watched a wide 10 point make a couple scrapes less than 30 yards from our back porch not long ago. Had another 8 point harassing some does at the same time. I've just lost interest in bow hunting this year

. I did not see any deer while on stand. We drove around just before dark and counted 15 deer. Most were in people’s yards or the road ditch and few on the fields. With pressure, the deer do shift towards the lake cabins and homes. In good years, we have seen 80 plus deer over that same stretch of road where we saw 15. My wife came home about 5:30 and saw a decent buck about 1/2 mile north of us. Then she turned in the driveway by our house and saw a bigger one. I hope she gets him. It was by our box stand.

Does anyone just hunt the fringes during the first few days of firearms season?
I like to do so, but if I get a cold front or the right wind, there are two stands I can’t resist going to.
