When I used to night fish Mille Lacs, certain winds and certain parts of the bar were best. We had no gps. Just a flasher. I had big plastic containers that I would put a flashlight in and drop them on the ends of the bar. Then you had to watch the flasher to find the rock ridges on that bar. Funny stuff Art. I remember having to actually line-up landmarks on one shore with another on the other side of the lake to find our bar to fish......ahhh....the good old days eh? lol Triangulate. I used to line up a tv tower with the East limbs on a white pine. Troll that line until you hit the bar. Go slightly right and there was a sunken tree top that held a few walleyes. That was on the lake where I grew up.

Shi# now a guy can just set the graph to green in 7 feet and troll the flats . It’s so easy . The technology is so much better. I still like to troll a Rapala and/or Shad Rap in 5-9 feet just before and after dark. It still works !

In the old days, I would have to watch the flasher signal to pick out that rim of rocks versus the gravel. The difference in water depth wasn’t significant for a flasher to show it.

Not on this graph, but I can see flat sand pretty well. I also have a Vexilar flasher I can check simultaneously.

Anybody use mud minnows to fish with? The guy that stocked walleye fry in my lake this spring was pulling 4" fingerlings for stocking today. He had a bunch of mud minnows he gave me that was just going to be thrown out. He says they're good bait but nobody wants to use them.

I bet it is. They can live in pretty low oxygen levels. I know batman posted about them at some time. I forget when though.

They are extremely hardy and will live practically forever in a minnow bucket. Don't be afraid to use the really large 4"+ mud minnows as well - the walleyes have no issues eating big mud minnows.

My buddy fished Gull today and this was his report:
I just got off the lake a half hour ago. I was fishing center bar and the hat and didn’t see a net out. Lots of boats out fishing today with Indigenous People day. I market about 20 fish all goddamn day. Frustrating
