6s 1 year. The large majority were a 15-18” tree with a healthy plug. The 6s 2 year I just got aren't close to that. My first order from Itasca, not sure I'll order from them again. Maybe they sent yours to me. That sucks though. I haven’t been disappointed by them yet in 4 orders.

I was pretty disappointed with my 100 spruce from the WI DNR Nursery this year. The trees were in good shape, but they were tiny and I'm wondering how they will compete. They should have a decent start since I planted them in a picked soybean field, but I'd feel better if they were about twice as large as they are. 6s 2 year = $1.40/each 6s 1 year = $1.10/each Plus tax and shipping/handling of course. I think I'm going to tell Itasca they owe me $.30 x 255 = $76.50 x 6.875% tax $5.26 = $81.75 total, or I'm done ordering from them

If they sent you trees that weren't as big as advertised, you should get the price for the smaller trees. On the flip side, about half of the highbush cranberry trees I bought from the WI DNR were too big to plant with my dibble bar. They were great looking shrubs for only about $1 each, but planting them with a shovel was not fun at all.

Definitely required a shovel. I will say the 6s scotch pine from Itasca (combined orders with a neighbor) were impressive. Probably 18-20" on average counting the plug. This just may be the impetus for me to stop planting trees by the hundreds. Probably time for that anyway...

I planted a few dozen apple seeds in an old styro flat yesterday. If I can grow apple plugs like that, I may just start growing and planting apple plugs instead of evergreen plugs Univ. of ID used to grow and sell smaller spruce plugs. I'm not sure why they haven't offered those the last couple years. If they offer those again, maybe I'll get 100 or so. If they don't, I may just be done with planting evergreens.

I only planted 5 fruit tree varieties I just “had” to have. Spent more time releasing native stuff and topworking.

I was impressed with the 25 black hills spruce I bought this from our county tree sales for about $50. I think I’ll keep buying a few of these county tree and shrub packets in the future. I just don’t plan on buying those crabapples there again for grafting purposes.

200 little white spruce plugs planted. I'll add some pics of the plugs I took later. If what they sent were 2 year, I'd hate to see their first year plugs. Feels good to get them in the ground. I'd probably be lucky to have planted 40-50 bareroot spruce in the time it took me to plant 200 plugs. Let's hope for timely rains this year edit...pics added. Am I off base in saying these are 1 year plugs? The rest of the spruce plugs I ordered are at the neighbor's, but they look the same as these do.

Scotch Pine grow so fast in the right area, and if protected!

Scotch Pine grow so fast in the right area, and if protected! Yep, they are the fastest growing evergreens here. Those that I received this year all were for the neighbor. They were very nicely sized.

The 2-0 bareroot white spruce seedlings I received from the WI DNR Nursery a week ago looked pretty similar to the spruce you have pictured. I was a little disappointed in the size of the spruce trees I received, but they looked extremely healthy despite the small size.
I'm not sure how bare root seedling size is supposed to compare to plugs at the same age though.

Maybe I've just been spoiled by the plugs from the old NCR.
I would have thought the box and tag would at least have identified the trees as "6s, two year" so the order packer would know what they are packing.

I don't see any two year old wood in those plugs. Appears they have had one growing season to me.
