I agree that you might be able to thin the turkeys down a bit if you knew a bunch of guys with fall tags. They would need to target hens though to have any impact. They seem to pile in here from late October on. The turkeys at my house tend to hit my plots hard from November until the plots are gone in January or February. I really wish Minnesota had a longer fall turkey season like Wisconsin’s September- December season.

Good for Carney. I also recently visited the same general area in Hennepin county that Carney mentions. I hadnt been through there in a number of years since we came to Big Lake. My jaw dropped and my heart sunk a little. It used to be nothing but farms on Bass Lake Road out to Corcoran. I could not make out where I even was. Absolutely astonishing. Corcoran is being eaten up. I dont care if I ever go back there in the area again. Then add in the total chaos of people. How do people find life like that enjoying? I guess its just not my cup of tea and never will be. Saddens me some to think of whats to come. There is no stopping it. Where does it end?(rhetorical question) Yikes. Rogers is building out, and will meet up with Maple Grove developments in a few short years. all gone forever. I am a guilty party, we built a new home in what used to be a large block of forest. So I cant be hypocritical about it. I'll take a stab at the rhetorical question....I94 corridor to St. Cloud from the cities will be one big metropolis within a decade. In another decade or less that metropolis will extend to Alexandria. When you travel those stretches now it is already pretty clear what is happening. And from St Cloud to Baxter and then up to foggy’s hunting land. I think I can have peace and quiet for ten more years. By then I won’t hear much of anything, anyway. One way or another…

Somewhere I saw where MDHA voted yes on crossbow use. Our local chapter did not.
There was also a vote to not have adult antlerless doe with the October youth hunt. Some WMA’s had too much pressure for youth to be able to hunt. That also passed. I am not sure of the final wording, but I did not favor adding more doe hunts after muzzleloader season as some proposed for the adult doe season.
We don’t need to pressure deer into late December when we have deep snow, IMO. Leave them alone. I feel the same about shed hunting with all of this snow on the ground.

2021 WSI:
2022:
Current winter to date:
Might be the year to not have a deer hunting season at all.
Hard for me to believe that locally it's still only a 'tan' designation.

I am right on the edge of the black if I can read the colors properly.

This reminds of the discussions re: MN's winter severity index and WI's winter severity index back in the MDDI days. Apparently, MN's deer are much less impacted by more snow and colder temps than WI's

They just hide during the harvest period, especially if wind, snow, too hot, too cold, standing corn.

Not sure if I should laugh or cry at that one Art!

Many parts of northern WI have more brutal winters than do similar latitudes in MN

We have been blessed that when we get "heavy" snow within a week it was mostly gone. I will say that around Christmas we got hit with a big winter storm followed by sub zero Temps. Luckily 2 farmers hadn't got there corn harvested so the deer had it easy.
