Mentioned on another thread that the site needs posts that are viewable to the general pop. So this might turn into a catch all for your stuff that doesn't need to stay on a legacy thread.

Wow. I hate to say it but thats more than I have done in a few weeks!!! Now more snow coming to clog stuff up. :/
My day consisted of spreading assloads of salt to try and melt ice on the driveway. Then try to scrape hours later which did near nothing. Picked up 12 bales of alfalfa. Met some friends to watch wild hockey at the local watering hole for a bit.
I need to get up north but cant until the snow grip lessens.

I decided to try my hand at making some maple syrup this year. Got out and tapped 8 trees Saturday. By dark on Sunday I had 5 gallons of sap. Don’t know why, but I wasn’t expecting that much in one + day. Think I might have to reconsider my collection method and get some tubing and 5 gallon buckets. My property is an hour away, so can’t be running every day. Should freeze up again for a while so I have some time to figure it out.

When I had my 40 and tapped I collected every other day during the week and every day on weekends. I collected in 5 gallon buckets and depending on the temps and tree every bucket would be just about full or over flowing. I was also tapping a lot more than 8 trees. How do you plan on cooking the sap? If doing it yourself WARNING WARNING do NOT do it in the house. Good luck and there is nothing better than homemade syrup from your own trees. I miss it but it was also a lot of work. IFRC the most I collected in a 1 day pull was 400 gallons.

Now you tell me Tooln! 😂 I knew it would be work. Thought I’d give it a try. Hoping to collect mid-week and on weekends. Definitely cooking outside over an open fire. Only problem is I have some travel coming up. Might have to let it run onto the ground at times.

I suppose I need to start coyote hunting or something. I've also considered picking up part time jobs in the winter, just for something productive to do.

Only problem is I have some travel coming up. Might have to let it run onto the ground at times. I tap 6 silver maple trees in my yard every year and usually end up with about 3+ gallons of finished syrup. I just collect using the same bag system you use and then I store the sap in large tupperware totes that I keep on the north side of my house in a snowbank. I usually boil twice per spring - typically once I have about 50 gallons of sap and then once at the end of the season when the sap run is finished. My sap boiling system is as simple as it gets - I put a few fenceposts on concrete blocks and place the pots on that with the fire underneath. I used to use large pots to boil the sap, but last year I started using large stainless steel rectangular pots that are designed to use in buffets. They work great since you get more surface area than pots and it dramatically reduces the boiling time required.

I remember getting pics of a lame deer (rear foot) but when I went back through pics I couldn't find it. Must have deleted it. I might wait for the skull to clean up some and see if any of the sheds I've found this year fit.
