That looks like a solid effort. How big is that plot? Do you ever burn it or just mow?

Growing up around habitat management in central WI, fire was a bad thing. I lack the experience and don't want the damn thing to get away from me...so mowing is what I do. I do spray with cleth to keep grasses at bay. I've got a few clumps of RCG getting started that the cleth only pisses off, so I'll have to hit them with gly at some point.

I had no clue it was that big. You have such cool diversity there.

I am with you on that and hate the burning. It just doesn’t fit in some places. Meadow burning has decreased around here. My neighbors fire got away one year and burned some acres of mine. I had a brush pile fire flare up and spread. Both times I lost trees.

Good job Stu. Those evergreens are starting to get to the height that they’ll pop a couple feet in a year now.
Curious if you had a rider mower set at the highest deck setting if you could mow it down or are there a lot of rocks and dips in there??

Curious if you had a rider mower set at the highest deck setting if you could mow it down or are there a lot of rocks and dips in there?? Some of the pines are over 10'. Deer browsed all of the lower limbs this year...so much for any screening. I've got some spruces growing under the pines, but those will take another 6-8 years to offer much of a screen. It's tough to tell, but most of the flower field is a rocky, rutted up mess. There's stretches I could hit with a belly mower, but much of it requires a Billy Goat or similar. At some point in the future, my old fat ass won't be hitting it with the B.G. any more. Then I'll either have to hire a young guy or let the brush take over. A skidsteer mounted brush cutter would work I'm sure. I won't be buying one of those in this lifetime though.

Swisher Just sayin'. I bought a 4 year old used one last fall for 900. Its basically new. Now i can leave one at the farm dedicated. This one will be used here at home, property next to Dads place, etc. Its my "floater" mower.

A pull behind would work for some of the plot, but there's a number of rocks just like this one that have to be dodged. I'd still have to go through with the walk behind to do at least some of the work.
