So I'm going to put some rod holders on our old Alumacraft. It's a starboard side console. I had holders in my old tiller fishing boat, but those were easy to figure out placement.
I'm thinking the "best" place for a driver's mount would be on the port side of the boat, slightly ahead of the driver's seat? I'll probably buy a couple extra mounts just for kicks, but getting at least one in the right spot would be nice.
Any input?

I have Folbe rod holders. They give you different options as to mounting. They also have ones that are removable, so when you aren't using them they are out of the way. I also got the alumatrac mounting system so there was no drilling holes at all. I don't know if your alumacraft is new enough for alumatrac system allows mounting any where from front to back which allows you to put holder any where front to back. I will take some pics and post them.

Our boat is a 2008 I'm pretty sure...so no Alumatrack. None of any of the other modern technological advances either. I really don't like the boat, but I also am not interested in dropping $30K+ on a new one.

A boat like this is more than I'd need www.rapidmarine.com/inventory/2023-lund-1650-angler-tiller-ham-lake-mn-55304-11296949iI'd like to go back to a tiller. From what I can find, there's plenty of boats out there for right around $30K that would be more boat than I'd ever need.

I keep thinking boats will come down some in the future but man I haven’t seen it yet. Not uncommon to see $80,000 pontoons on the lakes either.

I like my tiller boat. It is also as much boat as I can handle when loading or unloading alone.

Sad thing is that boat a few years ago was about $15,000 with electronics/etc. Crazy how out of hand they’ve gotten.

That and everything else badger.... a young couple has big challenges I have to imagine. The costs are insane every turn I make.

I will also second Folbe rod holders. They have held up to king salmon on Lake Michigan for us.

I have only used rod holders on Lake Michigan for salmon. I prefer to feel the fish hit. Of course, I have a tiller.

Trolling crankbaits and spinner rigs on Kabetogama for hours would be much more enjoyable with rod holders. Especially for my wife.
I'm going with Scotty holders, I don't need anything fancy. Placement of said holders is more what I was wondering about.
