Not out hunting but the cell cams say we have tracking snow up north by our land.

Last night was busy.
Saw a very promising 2 year old pushing does. Another one cruised past right at dark. Total was 9 does and 2 bucks.
It should keep getting better.

Will be looking for this one in the morning. Dad hit it tonight in the river bottoms. Should have been a chip shot. Good luck I hope you find him.

Found him! Went 300-350 yards. No blood trail as it snowed. Dad found blood 300 yards away just randomly on edge of corn field. I found him about 50 yards from that. Unreal. Had an idea where he would be headed. Spot on. Shot was back but got the liver. Stiff when we found him. 122 and change. Finally one for the wall for the old man.

Congrats on the buck, that's a nice one! That's a long distance to go - did you look for him last night and bump him? Or did the deer just cross a big field and bed down on the first cover he came to?

Or did the deer just cross a big field and bed down on the first cover he came to? No, my dad just left last night. Knew it wasn't a great hit so he just found his arrow and left. I said good. If it's gut shot he should be down. Don't want to bump him. I think it entered behind the ribs and came out in the rib cage. The liver was definitely severed. Not sure what else he hit. Arrow had some stink to it. Gutting it was fun. He was not found lying in cover though. He just walked off after the shot. Really a strange reaction. Stiff as a board when we found him.

Your dad definitely made the right call backing out. Every blood trail is different, but all of the shots too far back that I can remember had the deer bed down within 150 yards or so. Your blood trail was kind of odd, but it sure ended well. I would have been really worried if I was on that blood trail with no sign of a hit for the first 300 yards! You guys did a good job keeping after it.

Like I said, we knew it was hit w/ the arrow and the blood/stink. Figured it was back. But there was just too much snow overnight, no chance at actually finding the trail. It was just such a random chance he found that blood high on a blade of grass, unaffected by the snow. And we know where they typically head down there so we just grid searched our way in that direction. Better to be lucky than good sometimes.

He did the same thing back in 2019 on Halloween. This guy showed up Sunday at 4:10pm. I told him you need to sit up there Monday night. He wasn't seeing anything at the Shed. Paid off!

I sat on a stand in a bottleneck that I have hunted for over 55 years. No weapon this year as I didn’t buy a bow tag. I saw….. one wolf track. I also went and scouted a different area and saw two wolf tracks. the deer are hanging near the lake homes and cabins. Not in the big woods.

There should be deer !
