Which Silky saw should I get for hand pruning apples? I see they have the Zubat 240, 270, and 330?
They also have the Gomtaro and Sugoi.
I'm looking to cut 3" and under branches and tight spaces. I want nice smooth edge cuts. I doubt I'd use it for hinging.

I'd have to go look at mine, I know it's a Zubat but I don't know what model. It is a great saw

I don't own one but have it on my list. The models you listed are the most common that I have read guys using. Seems to me you would not need a saw for more than a 4-5" tree and more often for less than that. Otherwise I would use a hing-chainsaw.

I found out when I was up on my Apple ladder this year that you want a sharp cutting hand saw in areas where you may be reaching trying to cut branches close to the collar. On young trees it's not as much an issue but, you will want one in older trees. The larger limbs will require a close cut and you don't want any bark tearing as the limb comes free.

I ordered the Zumbat 270. I found out after Stephen Hayes uses the Gomtaro 300.

I have the Zubat 330 and I love it. I've hinged pretty big trees with it and it has held up good. For what you're using it for it sounds like you got the right one. Very good saws.

Received the new Silky Zubat today. Tested it out. Wow is that thing sharp. Pruned a 1" limb off a flowering crab at home in 3 strokes. Could've been two but, I took it easy. Nice clean pruning cuts.

I finally looked at my Silky yesterday, it's a Zubat 330. Incredibly sharp and easy to use

Got a couple 330's. I always wear my puncture-resistant gloves when using it. One time I didn't I paid for it, and it wasn't even while cutting. Fuckers are sharp.

I visited a Vermont orchard/nursery and the guy let me use his Wheeler pruning saw. I thought it provided a much smoother cut than the Silkys I’ve used. And Silky are great saws. This one has a smaller kerf. He said he had to change the blade after every 50 trees. He let me prune a couple branches off one of his apple trees and it was smooth clean cuts. It might be tough in tight spaces but, in open areas it would be great. Cheaper than Silky www.fedcoseeds.com/ogs/wheeler-pruning-saw-9031Here’s a photo of him with it.
