Do yourself a favor and make a fall run to Nevis/Akeley for a UTV ride into Paul Bunyon state forest. And stop at the Stompin'Grounds bar. Its right on the trails by Akeley side.
Very fun full day up there.

We always had good luck in late spring early summer for panfish on Lake Osakis. The best crappie fishing I’ve ever experienced is Lake Waconia during the spawn.
Both were several years ago though.

Rush lake north of ottertail checks a lot of boxes for you. All the fish boxes for sure. No fish in OTC

We used to go on week long fishing trips to lake Osakis as well. Great panfish lake and it had some world class rock bass. We caught rock bass on spawning beds using spinnerbaits while we were looking for largemouth. A June trip to osakis would be fun.

. I couldn’t find an article in that link about the CW chain of lakes. From what I hear, some have decent fishing. I like good fishing anywhere, but my choice would tend to be north of Leech or North of Grand Rapids, Bemidji or Blackduck area. I like the Pennington to Blackduck area. Lots of small lakes and close to Leech, Winnie, Cass, and Lake Bemidji. I like the backwoods feel. Stu might want to be close enough so the family could spend a couple of days with them at the lake. Another factor to consider.

Who needs "charm" when the fish are biting 😄. Osakis is my backyard, and I'll take the fishing around here, then anywhere(besides Lake of the Woods) up north.

Osakis the community has changed significantly for the better since I've lived here.
As far as charm goes, I noticed very little on/around Kabetogama.

My weeklong fishing trips growing up were the highlight of my year when I was younger. It was always a big trip with uncles, cousins, grandfather, great uncles, etc. I can't speak about the charm of any of those areas since we never left the lake. We always brought food and drinks to last a week and we never left the cabin or resort.

There's a big group of guys I fish with that come up from southern MN to go musky fishing in miltona every year. It's the highlight of their year. Fun time!

My 2 favorite panfish lakes are Dead Lake in Otter Tail County & Trelipe Lake by Longville. Both nice areas, and very consistent fishing for nice crappies and bluegills with walleyes possible as well.
Dead Lake is big, but more bays and islands, so it does not feel like a big lake.

Rush lake north of ottertail checks a lot of boxes for you. All the fish boxes for sure. I'll check on a couple VRBOs there. OTC was where I had started looking quite a while ago. I was going to book a place on Anna Lake, but no satellite TV and no internet weren't great selling points.

Rush is good, Clitherall, Stuart, Dead, long list in that area. Plus some good bars and restaurants within 30 miles.
