I'm interested to hear how your dike help up with all the rain! So am I!

Art - That looks like some awesome habitat. Did your ponds fill in over time or are they the same depth as when they were originally built? Is there enough water there for waterfowl to use those ponds? They never were very deep and have been pretty much taken over by cattails. I might get some geese nesting on a muskrat house out there. Sandhills hang around and probably nest. The USFWS agent told me to I had approval to take out cattails if I see them to maintain the pond in this state. I like the looks of your place though Art. I am going to keep it mainly nesting habitat and food for now and see if the waterfowl show up. If they haven't after a few years, I'll probably let it eventually turn into something looking like yours. I still plan on keeping the hay field active that surrounds the pond as well for now. It pays for my food plot and habitat seed at moment.

In dry years, I have jumped deer out of the cattails while hunting pheasants (post rifle deer season).

I made it up there Sunday, but hadn't had time to post pics. Water had been another 50 feet plus bigger than current pond with all the rain that we had, but the dike held up well. Looks like lots of wildlife using the ponds already...there were 4 mallards swimming around. Lots of frogs hopping around & tadpoles. Several monarchs & dragon flies flying around as well.
The big pond is looking pretty ducky already
Collecting pond and spillway...some rye and alfalfa growing up on the dike
overflow drain

Looks like the blue wing teal have found the pond to their liking. Finding some deer beds on the west side berm as well.

Moved a trail camera to the south west corner of the pond and it looks to be a primary travel corridor already.
Even my notched ear doe made an appearance

The water looks like it's a good draw!

Had any good shoots out there? Not yet. Unfortunately, weather, work, and kids’ sports schedule haven’t aligned for much stand time yet.

Pond is looking pretty good into the 2nd year. Lots of waterfowl activity so far. It is holding water in a much larger radius than planned, but I would say this is far from a typical spring for water levels. The depth control pipe is flowing continuously but today's rain won't help. Still very happy with it and so are all of the critters

Found an updated aerial post dig on the zoom site. This was right after the monsoons last June but it’s holding a similar perimeter now.

How many square feet is that pond? I have always wanted pond and your pond looks like a good size.
