This weeks temps look cold. I was very happy to see the trees did not progress much this week. Here are some pics at various stages. How cold do you think they can handle?

Here is the first blossom on a tree I planted! Third leaf Dolgo.

My first attempt at grafting here. I grafted over a few trees that die back every winter. They were grafted to Centerfield Apple which comes from a tree in the center of my field. Look for them to be sold as the "best deer Apple" very soon. I won't be up for a couple weeks so this is what I came up with to keep the frost off.

28 is most likely you're number that you want to keep an eye on from here on out. I'd get tge orange blob out of the area and burn it. Not sure what it is. Maybe it's this? thelinkssite.com/2014/07/15/treating-fungal-growth-fruit-trees/If so, I'd cut it out but, remember to always spray your tools with a 10% bleach water solution to sterilize the tool between cuts so you don't spread any disease.

I cut way back and took it far away. It was a jelly consistency.

Not sure how cold we got last night. Weather watcher didn't call in a temp but she did send a pic of the ground covered in snow. Calling for 1-2" tonight. My thought is that it could actually protect the blossoms if it sticks to the tree. Two more mornings of a prediction of 31. With the cloud cover and snow I am hoping it stays above thirty. Our late killing frosts usually happen on clear calm nights so maybe I will squeak by on this one.

I have 2 peach trees at prolly 80% petal fall and fruit set, gala was at about 10-15% full bloom, chestnut crab had flowers ready to bloom but not quite, weather station 11 miles from my house registered 25.8 degrees at 4:05 this morning, we probably ran a bit closer to 27.

Tomorrow is judgement day. Looks like 30 was low today with an inch of snow last night. Skies clear tonight after 10 days of rain and clouds. Mid 20's is a real possibility. After that should be in the clear but we do get frost in June every couple years.
