Bringing up this old thread....was at Cowboy's of Lakeshore (MN) today. We've eaten there a number of times before and were happy. We hadn't been there for quite awhile until today and they appeared to be under new ownership/management....it was still great. I had a patty melt (awesome - 1/2 lb) and my wife had lobster tacos (special for the month of September). The tacos were fantastic. We'll try our best to get back again before the end of the month. Shoot!.....I wish you would let me know when you and your Mrs are gonna be in town. We'd take you on a pontoon ride and visit one of the watering holes nearby. ON the lake......Earnies is a fun stop.....though today was not a good lake day. AND....Earnie's is building a new place (Canoe Paddle?? or Bent Paddle??) in downtown Nisswa. About time somebody puts a restaurant in town. The 371 highway finally looks like it's ready for final blacktopping out of Nisswa. They sure took their sweet time on that bridge. Ya, I thought about you when we were up. Given the traffic (ugh...fuck that) heading north I figured you (and everybody else in a 100 mile radius) would have family/extended family/family you wish you didn't have/etc. showing up for the holiday weekend. Ernie's has a great burger and a great lobster bisque. The wife and I always feel a bit out of place in that general area...way too many folks that aren't from central MN

There was a time when I felt out of place in a variety of settings. I always felt like I was at somebody's yahct club around some of the better lakes and at a golf course.....and I had to wear a sailor suit or something. grin. NOT SO! It's really just a matter of hanging out there a bit.....and that feeling goes away. At least that is the way it is for me.

There's something to be said for the folks from this (central/west central MN) area. Very similar to most Wisconsinites I've known. Regular folks...no "airs"...no pretentiousness...just good people. Once I am surrounded by people from the Metro...I get the creepy crawlies. Pretty much the same feeling I get when in north east WI and the FIBS are in town.
Just a "me" issue

* I used to sell stuff to some pretty pretentious, wealthy bastards. It took me some time to stomach a few of these boys.....but I learned that they all put their pants on, one leg at a time. Some are pretty good guys once you get through some of the fluff and puff. Others are just assholes.....but they still put their pants on one leg at a time. I remember a guy down the lake from me when I owned a little cabin on lake Koronis near Paynesville. He had early success into the computer biz....and really made some big coin. He was a nice guy....but some of us were a bit intimidated by his degree of wealth. We were standing around one day talking about his wealth.....and teasing at him. His reply was a good one. He said: "look fellah's......I still got allot of problems in life......money just ain't one of em". ^ His response always stuck with me.

^^^oh I know full well that the rich folks have just as many issues as the rest of us "little people". That isn't my issue...my issue is that most of those people choose to attempt to hide or ignore those issues. I much prefer the average guy who laughs/talks about those issues freely. Those kinda folks I can relate to.
I'm just a simple man with nothing to hide and nobody to impress.

Best burger I've had in MN was the other day at The Landing near Cushing and just off of Lake Alexander. We will be going back.

What about BBQ joints? I mean true BBQ. Not dickeys, or any of that presmoked crap restaurants get.
Elmers BBQ north of Battle Lake burned down a couple weeks ago. Funny how many food joints burn in outer MN..........
