while we had the mini x out opening our beaver dam we decided to remove a big rock that was in our food plot, well as you would know as we dug it kept getting bigger, I should have took a pic of it before we touched it.

What'd you end up doing with it? Could they mini really get it out of the ground?

Hope it stays put down there for a while. They have a way of comping back up in time. Good luck!

In the old days, they used dynamite for both of those projects. I had a client who blew a beaver dam. Next day the warden stopped and said you sure did a good job of clearing that dam. Farmer said he sure did. Then the warden wrote him a ticket.

Looks like he dug a hole next to it and dropped it back down a little deeper. Bout all you can do with giants like that. Hopefully it stays put for a long time.

My neighbor calls those monuments when he gets them on his fields. He pulls them out with his big tractor and skidsteer and puts them along the edge.

Back in the late 70's my old man had one on the farm that stuck about 2' out of the ground and maybe 6' diameter. The neighbor bought a D3 cat and wanted to play with it. He asked the old man if he could dig that rock out. As he kept digging it just kept getting bigger. He stopped digging when you couldn't see the top of the cage on the cat. I'm guessing he was down about 9-10 feet and the rock was still getting larger. Another neighbor asked to blast it out using fertilizer and diesel. Needless to say the rock is still there today.

Grandpa said he buried a rock the size of a van back in the day. I dont recall how the hell they dug around it to roll it down deeper. He just said what they thought was a big rock turned into a goddam boulder as big as a van the deeper they got. They got it buried too.
Sure wish there was pictures of this stuff around.

I love rocks, well not them big bastards, but on this farm in Mora, we have a gravel ridge across the whole south 160 acres. It is made up of nice primary rock and Red clay. Perfect for making class 5. Some day when I am tired of farming, and all the other gravel pits in the area are run out, Old BuckChaser is going in the gravel business! LOL!

I've been told a few times that good gravel / aggregates are getting hard to come by. Anderson Bros has a big blacktop operation in the lakes area.....and they go east toward McGregor to find quality aggregate for their operations. I guess its all about quality.

Yes it is all about quality. The type of primary rock we have crushes into smooth edge rocks when processed. Unlike some rock has sharp edges when crushed. and we have good clay, some places have sandy clay that makes more of a Class 3 mix, not liked by counties trying to keep their roads in place.

My neighbor told me that my north hillside would be perfect for gravel. I figure if deer numbers get so low its not worth hunting I'll turn that into a pit for gravel.
