I have heard Moose are curious animals. How do they behave when you encounter them? Do they run like a deer or stop and watch you? I saw a nice bull up on the Gunflint trail last fall. We were in the car, I grabbed my phone for a picture and he was gone. When I hunted them at Agassiz, they would stand and watch the pickup until you stopped. I imagine it depends on perceived pressure.

Cages don't exist for critters like that. Nice!

I have heard Moose are curious animals. How do they behave when you encounter them? Do they run like a deer or stop and watch you? Some as as cautious as a mature whitetail. Others are curious. I've had them follow me when im still hunting. I've had both bulls and cows walk up to me. That was years ago before their population dropped. This bull we saw on the last day of our moose hunt. He walked within 20 yards of us. We only had a cow tag so he lived.

Unreal. Can you keep sheds if you find them on public land?

This yearling followed me for 100 yards the year before we got drawn for the moose hunt. Her mom was with a bull down the ridge. They disappeared when we got our moose permit. I found out this Friday if I get drawn this year. I'm 0 for 29 so far.

Unreal. Can you keep sheds if you find them on public land? Yeah. We can keep them but they're getting harder to find. The coyotes will chew them up. We found a set set a year too late when we were hunting but, packed them out anyways. Years ago when I was young and there were no logging roads cut in where we hunted I found 13 moose sheds in one day. I couldn't carry them out so I hiked out and got my brother. He didn't believe me. We got them out but, it was tough. They've since built roads and logged in there and other people go shed hunting.

These browselines are 8-10' up. You can see why a 5' cage won't stop them from eating apples if they want

Your spruce and fir must regenerate though. I don't think conifers regen for shit in MN. The aspen and birch seem to come to fast for them to compete.

Yes . On my property where there's softwoods they regen and out compete the hardwoods for the most part. They seem to pop up by the hundreds in small openings.

The moose are safe for another year on my property. I kept my winless streak alive for a moose permit. 0 for 30.

you don't get any kind of preference points for moose... after 30 years you think it would be your turn

I believe they have 12000 applicants so its not an easy tag to draw.
