Getting close to filling season. Just called 300-600 gallons is 0.84/gal and 600+ gallons is 0.79/gallon. Thinking about pulling the trigger soon. I'm glad you brought this up. Reminded me I need to line up a new supplier. My old supplier is probably at $4.50/gallon. I called the local Cenex and they'll come fill mine at $1.29. I could probably make it through a season, but I don't want to be low on gas in the spring when it's time to open things up and road restrictions are on. Done deal. Just got our pre-buy contract in the mail today from Beaudry. $1.29 is cash/check pre buy amount.

Just got off the horn with my new supplier. They had some conflicting language in all the legal mumbo jumbo, so I called in to get some clarification. Turns out, it's much better than I thought. I don't have to pay the 30 cent/gallon small fill charge as long as I'm not an asshat and demand a fill when I'm at 65%. If it's under 25% they said they'd just fill it at truck price.
I'm also getting a convenience store card, so anything I buy up there I'll also get patronage on (fuel, minnows, tackle, ice, DEF). They've been running 7% patronage the past couple years on all purchases, and I can even get it when I pay with my Bezos Visa (another 2%). They outta be doing just fine at that kind of payout with LP at $1.34. It still beats the hell outta $3+ with the other outfit.

As long as you are under 50% of your tank they will fill it for the normal cost.

Did you tell them that if you can get your solar heat and cooking gig onboard.....that you would cut them off at the knees? Yep....I didn't think so. (grin). Carry on.

It's that "60% of the time it works all the time" grid that I'm no fan of. The lights are out in half of Iowa right now because the grid failed.

How does cold weather affect my propane system? Can you run out of gas before you run out of gas? Yes you can. Having gas and the ability to convert it from liquid to vapor as fast as your appliances need it is affected by temperature, level of liquid in your tank, and the size of your tank. This is a big reason why I lean towards more tank. If you know how many BTUs your system draws if everything is running at once, you can get really close to figuring out how much tank you need, and how well it'll run at what level and temp. I've got a 25k BTU furnace, a 15k BTU cooker, and 3k BTU fridge. If all three are running at once, I've got to be able to produce 43,000 BTU's worth of vapor. So how low can I get my tank and at what temp where it'll still work? It's a whole different ballgame at -10F than it is at +20F. Shitty the charts don't go to -30F. It almost looks like my tank would fail to vaporize at 40% if it was -30F outside.
