Can't say for certain, but I'm thinking wild plum. Cut one of the fruits open and see if there's a single, large pit.

Brooks thought plum I thought not plum. Very dry grassy area in full sun.

The fruit looks a little small for plum and a little large for nannyberry.

I've never seen nannyberry or wild plum but, I'd cut one and see if there's a pit. Do nanny berries have small seeds or a single pit?

Looks like plum, I have plum without spikes.
My plum are very green and still hard as of this weekend.
Looks like your tree got hit with some over-spray?
