Have a spot with reed canary grass that can be easilyy seen from the higher road - thinking tamarack me a decent choice to hide deer from prying eyes?
I know its a good time to nuke the RCG. Would like to have some height to the new plant - say 15 feet.
Anybody attempt similar? Results?

I planted some bare root tamarack in my lowland and they shot up to 4' in a couple of years. Only problem was that they were planted in a nice staging area and they all got rubbed.

Tamarack lose their needles and make sure the screen has cover at the time of year that you want.
I have struggled for some years with spruce and willow in RC. Plant spruce that are at least knee high or better and not bare root. Use round up for several years, black plastic (silage bags for me) and then willow cuttings.

I think your idea is worth a try.

Tamarack is going to be extinct, due to global warming. There is either a fungus or a bug that will kill them all in Minnesota!

I read that too. It's too bad because our area wintering grounds is a huge tamerack swamp.

I could have sworn I read the last 5 years or so in MN were on average cooler than normal?

I read a beetle is responsible for killing the tammy's in northern Minnesota. The gov is paying loggers to clear out many acres of dead tammy's that are standing dead. Not sure what they are replacing with? I'm trying to get a load of small tammy's for a corduroy road.
