Can 2-4D handle pigweed? I wonder if a guy couldn't do an oat cover crop in spring, spray 2-4d a few weeks before you want to plant brassicas, then spread all your seed and fertilizer in and mow it down? That might work most years but I think the problem this year is all the rain is causing the seed-bank which is full of pigweed to continue to germinate. Pigweed grows incredibly fast as I have 4' pigweed on soil that was clean a month ago.

Holy buckets, they're huge! I've never had mine get that big, do the deer just demolish them?

Sometimes the deer will pull up one of those big turnips from the ground.....and nip one little bite outta it......then do the same repeatably on several more. Must be democrats......they got no common sense! My deer are really pulling lots of turnips outta the ground in the last two weeks.

If they freeze in before they start on them, they'll take the tops and gnaw off what they can of the bulb, but the bulb isn't coming out.

Whether deer will eat huge turnips (or any turnips sometimes) is so variable..there simply isn't an answer to whether they'll get eaten or not. I've seen turnips nearly the size of volleyballs get consumed...and I've seen turnips the size of golf and tennis balls remaining in spring...and I've seen consumption of large and small turnips vary from year to year on the same property. Kinda crazy

I had two volleyball sized turnips last year that deer consumed. They ate them in November. They ate them a little at a time over several days.
This year is a very poor year for Brassicas for me. The rain never came in September so I never gave them a dose of urea. As far as I can see the largest may be golfball sized. I do have lots of dwarf Essex rape stalks for them. They've eaten almost every groundhog radish.

When ever I grow them that big they just stink like hell when they rot. Deer here seldom eat turnips, but I keep planting the damn things anyway. That's a nice plot!
