My dad looks like a space man when he sprays his apples.

Some of our insecticides I sell to farmers now require Hepa filters in their tractor cab, or a Hepa filter mask. Is it the same with apple tree sprays? I don't know to be honest. I do think a full face mask as well as a disposable tyvek suit are required for applying certain orchard chemicals. Makes a guy think twice If a guy likes his central nervous system the way it is, he should think twice.....

Makes a guy think twice If a guy likes his central nervous system the way it is, he should think twice..... I bought some of that insecticide that is supposed to be good for all kinds of bugs. You recommended it last year MO.....and I think it's named "Talstar". After reading about that shit.....I decided to buy a respirator and use extra care to apply with the wind, etc. Really worked good to cut down the insects and spiders and such around my land's building site. No ticks either. May apply it again pretty soon....as the wasps and bees and fall bugs are now starting to get annoying. The thing is.....all those chemicals carry some dire warning......its just hard to know which are "real" and which are to cover their asses. I'm wearing that respirator now (when I apply Talstar) .....and I really don't know if its "nessesaary". ?

I'm gonna replace 2 galarinas. I also have a Honeycrisp that is disease ravaged every year no matter how much I spray it. I'll probably rip it out and plant a variety yet to be decided upon.
I dropped something into a hot tank of Imidan a couple years ago. I instinctively reached in and grabbed it. Realizing my mistake, I washed thoroughly. My arm hurt for two days. It made my joints and bones ache. No good!! Now I always wear a respirator when spraying.

I don't know if I am going to plant anymore trees for now. I really need more time to take care of what I have now a little better. Anyone else thinking that way? Yep, that's exactly where I am at in my thinking. I walk my largest orchard pretty much daily and I can tell that not spraying has really delayed the growth and degraded the health of my trees. They're "fine" for the most part, but they could be "fantastic" with a handful of sprays annually. I retired my Fimco this year & bought a tank with a gas transfer pump. Did three sprays this year really soaking them down. The results were well worth it. Knocked disease and bugs back tremendously. I think you'll be happy with your ^^^^^ decision.

What do you wear/use for PPE?

Stu,
I picked a keepsake yesterday so the bear wouldn't destroy the tree. It's a long way from being ripe. There's two more apples on it up higher.
