The BMF got one. We've already discussed what he saw this entire season.

I got an email, of course I will not be hunting in MN. I purchased the lifetime archery license last year so I do have a license for this year.
Text of main email:
The Minnesota DNR and University of Minnesota are partnering on a project using archery deer hunters as sources of information on deer and other wildlife. You have been selected at random to participate in this survey. We selected you based on the fact that you bought an archery deer license from 2014 - 2016. This is the first year of a survey that we hope to do annually.
If you choose to participate, we ask that you use the electronic form in the link below to enter a daily log of your hunting observations from the beginning of the archery season to the start of the firearm season. If you choose to participate, please make sure you enter your hunt even if you didn't see any deer that day. We intend to use this log to help monitor trends in deer populations, so data for no deer observed are as important as the data you enter when you see deer.
This electronic log is set up so you can record daily observations over the course of the early season. We ask that you enter your hunt data on the same day as your hunt or shortly thereafter. Alternatively, feel free to keep track of your hunts on the paper log and electronically enter your data later. Each time you enter a hunt, it will be recorded automatically. However, If you mail us a paper log, you will not be able to keep track of your weather information on the datasheet. You can get the paper log here, 2017 MN Bowhunter Paper Log.
Please note that our data collection period is: September 16 - November 3, 2017
Please have all of your data entered no later than: November 10, 2017
This application is mobile friendly, so you can enter your data whenever you have access to an electronic device with an internet connection.
To complete the daily log, for each hunt you must enter at least the month/day, deer permit area, hours hunted, and number of deer seen (or not seen). These are mandatory fields.
Make sure you put the survey link below on your desktop, on your toolbar, or save it as a bookmark. You can also save a copy of this email. That way, you can easily navigate to the page to enter your data after every hunt. This is your personal link to record your observations this season so please don't lose it. As we are emailing this log to over 8,000 bowhunters, it will be difficult to address issues independently.
Because you were selected at random and your link is uniquely to you, we ask that you do not forward this email to another person. Doing so may result in your responses not being usable for the survey. So, it's VERY important that only you use this link to complete the daily log. So you know, this log went to 17,000 bowhunters (9,000 paper, 8,000 email), to ensure a representative sample from across the state.
If you have a question, please do not reply to this email. Instead, send an email to MNbowlog17@gmail.com and we will try and answer your questions. You can also call 507-508-7535 if you have questions.
Thank you for your time and willingness to participate in this survey. Our plan is to put the report online and conduct this survey every year. Your survey link is below.
Sincerely,
Andrew Norton, Deer Research Scientist
Lou Cornicelli, Wildlife Research Manager

Can you post a link to the online log? Curious if I can see it or not? I just got the paper copy.

BLB - I sent a PM to hopefully avoid issues with the "personal" link if too many people clicked on it. Idaho requires a hunter report to be filled out. Cannot purchase a license the next year until a report is filed, a small fee is charge for late reports. I am sure some people just make up numbers, but seems like good info to have. Days hunted seems to be biggest thing tracked. idfg.idaho.gov/hunt/report
