My gal has a cabin on a 10-15 acre lake/pond in northern mn. Private. I have put all kinds of fish in there. There seems to be some winter kill every few years but not total. The northerns seem to be stunting and taking over.
I want to kill the pond and start over without northerns. Can i buy roetenone? Reverse oxygenation? What can i do without asking permission?

Let me start off with...this is a big challenge you have. Simply by the size of BOW!
Need some background to give. Also, any suggestions Riggs, Catscratch and any other pond experienced guy here speeak up
First question i have is about the "northerns" Are u certain they are true northerners or are they chain pickrel?
What is your budget here? Anything can be done but this size BOW would likely be in the the 10's of thousands.

BOW is in northern mn and i put them in there. They are northerns. Yeah budget is not going to be five digits. Questionable on four digits. Reverse aereation?

Not sure what "reverse aeration" is?

I've got nothing, never killed out a lake before. Maybe add some flathead to it.

Reverse aereation is taking oxygen out of the lake in winter when oxygen is low to begin with. Heard of it, was hoping you guys knew about it.

Disclaimer - I don't know jack about ponds.
Just a brainstorm idea. Couldn't you pump out a significant amount of water, thereby lowering the depth and causing winterkill?

A lot of water to drop a 15 acre lake. Better do your calculations...and this is coming from a water guy. That being said I have no idea how deep the lake is or if u have a good outlet etc....

What about shocking it. I know they do it for taking surveys but 15 acres may be hard to do.

Gets 20 feet deep and would be hard to drain. Going to have to hope for lot of snow.

Throw 20 bags of copper sulfate in there. Would cause a major oxygen crash potentially killing a lot of stuff. Prolly a stupid suggestion but you don't really have any "cheap" options. Don't let Mnfish see this suggestion or I will be banned from the inner fish circle.

Hahahah!! Seriously, thats a great idea Riggs. Could it be done thru the ice? Numerous times thru out the winter. I would also Dye that BOW ace of spades black. Let no light penetrate. Relatively inexpensive too
