I would have shot at one. . Not sure a grouse load would do much damage to a wolf ...maybe make sure the kids are safely in the truck first in case the bird shot just pisses it off

At close range that grouse load would put a hurt on those wolves. But at 30 yards or so.....maybe not lethal. When I hunted moose near Isablella we saw 5x as many wolves as moose....and that was almost ten years ago. This wolf thing is out of control. I just posted this article to my Facebook page......and added: S/S/S
I think a guy should take some buckshot along in case this were to happen to you. Maybe the last one in the magazine should be 00 buck.

WOW. Talk about trigger control. But sounds like things happened to fast.

I've never encountered a wolf in person, but I had a dog incident that shook me for a while. At the time, some neighbors had multiple dogs they didn't care for. Those dogs were on camera running deer on our place all summer and fall. Enter opening day of rifle season. After the morning sit, I walk to get Omaha Steve out of his stand. Near his stand was a camera, so we stopped to grab it. I leaned my gun against a tree about 20 feet away while I got out my keys and spare card to get the swap made.
All of a sudden two boxer/bulldog looking muts come running by not 30 feet away. I'm not dog guy, but all I know is they had those heads and jowels that could cut iron. They came flying right past us but never engaged thank God. I wouldn't want to fight a dog hand to hand with a scoped rifle. After I got over the surprise, I ran for my rifle and tried to rap off some rounds at 'em, but they were already gone.
Good reminder that a guy should be packin heat (while I'm near certain it's illegal while bowhunting) in wolf and crackhead country. Back by my plots, cell phones don't work, so if I got pinned in a tree, I'd have to fight it out on my own.
