Has anyone allowed their green beans (the pods) to mature long enough to use them as shell beans? Boil them up until tender, add garlic and onion powder, S&P, a bunch of butter , and mash 'em up like taters. Drizzle with apple cider vinegar when you eat them. Tasty as hell. I don't know if this is a common "thing" or not. My grandma and folks always allowed some green beans to mature for shell beans. My wife and her family had never heard of such a thing....but she's sold on eating them now.

I think there are two among us that are going to plant faba beans next year. Will there be any for people? Don’t know yet.

Not a huge faba bean fan, but I imagine the deer like them.
We're able to keep deer out of the garden with nothing but milorganite around the perimeter a few times a year.
